Its cool guys. And thanks to those who dig. Again, I just have lots of random ideas and like to have fun with them. Also pretending to look like I'm "working" at work. Seriously though. Slack, I get whatcha mean, but by no means am I trying to derail this thread either. Never have, and never will. The art is on topic, if not more, than any of the other posts that go on in here. It's not offensive, there's no Grody Shogun (which seems to be everywhere), and I'm not picking on anyone. It's just plain NagNagNag fan art and creativity. Hopefully inspire/entertain others. Greg, L'amour, COOP, and Shigeru are the main reasons I even create this stuff. Inspired/influenced, and would like to give back to that. That is all. PS: And Martoy, don't worry, I have retired the animated Nag GIFS.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
IMHO, I think the art for this particular "header" is more in line with the image I've had of the sculpt from the beginning than Mishka and Lamour's contributions. I dig the art on the old headers, so no disrespect to Mishka or Lamour, but I just felt as though the Mishka/Lamour aesthetic didn't ever truly fit with the sculpt or original concept of the figure (then again, I can't say I know what Shigeru had in mind for the little guy). At first I thought, "that's a pretty awesome collaboration," with the first few releases, then Coop pumped out some great work in a similar vein, which solidified Boryoku Genjin's image of being Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and Basil Wolverton's love child-this spook show, splatter house, madball, punk rock cave dude with an attitude. It's hard to think who he might be had Mishka/Lamour/Coop not intervened. It'd be interesting to see a big turn in the aesthetic, to see him evolve. Fans of the sculpt made Boryoku Genjin what he is today, perhaps Mishka/Lamour/Coop could pass the torch if Shigeru was comfortable with it. I'm sure the hype/demand won't fall regardless of what happens, he was destined to be a bombshell from the beginning.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
Um, thanks a bunch HBCoffin! You like spoke EXACTLY what was on my mind, but I couldn't quite put into words, so I made the header to express that instead. That was my "interpretation" of the violent caveman. I felt like he's always had this "forgotten toy in the toy box" vibe to him. Or a bootleg, flea market feel... I wanted to try and capture that old, parchment-paper look of an aged header, with the watercolor fills and bold text with subtitle throwback to the 60s ads and printing. Nothing shocking, eye-popping, or really vibrant about it. Just that vintage, homely, foreign toy in your hands that has some kind of history.
All in all, what so special about the Genjin, is that its kind of universal. Whether he is Fink or Frankenruge, he can be interpreted in so many ways. I can only imagine that L'amour or COOP have a blast with each release, almost a creative outlet, for it kind of has no restraints or rules on image or marketing. Like getting sucked into a story or coloring book. Just let loose your imagination and see where the caveman has gotten himself into next. That's the beauty of the character and sculpt.

The header is cool looking. But i think you have to change to 4-eye nag or the new zombie as Nag3 did say the GID will be the last of the OG nags so that he can move on. Brave decision to retire a successful sculpt.

Also, is the GID you mention the already released GID "Andy Warhol" or an upcoming release ?

You can always trust what Joe says And the GID was the release before the recent Mishka release of various paint jobs on GID along with the mixed part nags + the Warhols i believe.

Atleast we have the new figure to look forward to.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
I think that is unfortunate news. All hype aside, I think 'coffin really summarised it excellently. I can really appreciate what had been done with the Genjin, but I would also love to see a return to (or beginning) of a basic/classic caveman version. Shigeru's sculpt is amazing, and while I can get that the whole idea is not to flood the market with Nags, I still think there is a lot of room to go in different directions and not take away from it as a whole. Personally I dig Fourth's art, and I think as this is a general 'appreciation' thread, have at 'er. Especially as the community of people who are in the "in" Nag crowd or have been lucky enough to get an actual toy are few and far between. More sharing, peace, love, and all that leftist granola shit.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
I like that a lot too, very nice Iat4th ! It gets a new felling to the toy. I agree with what HBCoffin expressed. I had the same impression when I discovered the BG before LS & COOP took the reign of header designs. It took a rebel / punk-rock curve and it was fun for a few releases. It would be time for Shigeru to move on to other inspirations. Maybe some collab with Japanese artists to make it a Japanese toy again. He has some modern Yokai potential more than a Kaiju/Kaijin feel, why not go that way ?

Interesting to see this discussion come up again in a more calm way. I agree with all above and enjoy the artwork that Fourth has been kicking out in these months. I can't but agree with having some Japanese talent on the headers too although I would also be interested in seeing some Shig artwork, considering his skills I'm sure he wouldn't let us down.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
I used to think, makers had to drop new sculpts all the time to be relevant and popular and to make evident their ability. But then I was having a conversation with a vintage guy, and he was kind of like why, what's wrong with doing something that is so right and so good the first time, you don't need anything else. A character that can stand the test of time and be endeared by generations.
And that changed my mind. He was right, this hobby is too much about what's next and what's new, it should be about artists doing it right, coming up with amazing characters and not just a trend, running with their grand idea and really creating an iconic lasting character. I'm sad the original is retired, because that's imo his best work and my favorite, I haven't seen the zombie but the few teasers I've seen don't give me much hope it will surpass my love of the original figure. But it's his call, and he has to move his brand how he sees fit.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
I don't understand "Retiring" anything. I mean why be so official? Why not just stop making it if you're sick of it then when you're not come back and if you never feel like it then don't? Why tag on the "this is the last one!" stigma? That's the aspect I don't get.
I get just being tired or bored as the creator of going on with it, but I don't get being so FINAL. Like bands, why say "oh we're done" when we all know some day you'll go back unless everyone dies?
I don't understand the need to announce a specific message of finality.
