True that sew up tires do have it's advantages in racing and cornering, but remember, this is your commuter haha.

As far as parts. It looks like you are looking to spend a nice amount of money on this one. Seems like the part you need a suggestion on are hubs. I would definitely go Chris King or Phil Wood. I have ridden both hubs and both are amazing! Also they have sealed bearings, ride buttery smooth, and are built to last. Chris King hubs do come in a variety of anodized colors. I would choose these two hub brands over Campy any day. They are also made in the USA.

I would suggest always riding with a brake. I have ridden a brake-less, NJS bomber Pro, for 2+ years and looking back at it, I wished that that frame accepted brakes. Trust me, your knees will thank you for using brakes. Although I did get a lot of "street cred" for being brake-less haha

I've tried bullhorns and risers on my past fixed gear bikes. IT all just depends on what kind of riding position you would like to be in. Bullhorns, of course, will put you in a more aggressive position, and risers will have you sit more upright and comfy.

Also, I posted a pic of my last fixed gear bike on page 3 of this thread. It was mostly my commuter.

The Alaskan winter is 9 months so I figure I can buy the parts I want. I will look into your hub recommendations, sound like what I am looking for. I guess Campy isn't the heavyweight they used to be in fixed gear components. Any stand out threadless stem companies? I suppose brakes couldn't hurt long term, I certainly get sore easier these days. I prefer bullhorns for riding but risers seem like they would facilitate playing around more. Might have to try both or even something like the Titec H Bar.

I would definitely get a Thomson stem and seatpost. I am using both right now and absolutely love them. They are also USA built and will last pretty much forever.

Hubs:

Rims:

Stem and Seatpost:

You seem to have an idea of what you want when it comes down to saddle, crank set, and handlebars. I hope some of this helps.

Schwinn steel! I miss my vintage beach cruiser, even though it was a battle ship.

yeah man. There's nothing like lugged steel. Unfortunately, this is the only steel steed in the coral these days. RIP Master Light Colnago
Great errand runner and quite stylish in tweed as well.

Oh man! Riding in tweed? You sir, are a true gentleman.

I'm not really into those rims Daimyo, keep it classy. Also, I think you are right, you might hurl staring down at the rims that stare back.

I was never seriously considering these rims. Even if they weren't so busy/crazy, they are the wrong colors. I thought it was funny that I found them while looking for rims for a Mishka bike though. Those Thomson components look to be pretty bad ass. That's some crazy low weights for keeping with metal. The Chris King hubs look really nice too. Thanks for the input.

Awesome! Now show us what it looks like after it transforms into bike-mode!
Is it pretty easy to carry when it's all folded up? Like, would it be uncomfortable to carry through an airport or mall? Not that I plan to - just curious.

Here it is in "kickstand" mode:
Image
(I'll take a better photo outdoors soon)

It's heavier than I expected, and it's a little awkward to carry because usually you carry by the Brompton seat but I got a Brooks saddle (and the guy at the bike store said I probably shouldn't grip it with that) so I carry it by the main frame. You are supposed to be able to roll it on a smooth surface with the little wheels, but for some reason something gets stuck when I try to roll mine, so I might have to upgrade to the larger wheels. You can also get a case for the bike, but those are expensive (like anything that goes with Brompton :x )

I'm confused by why the size of the wheels would matter when rolling. it seems to me like brake is rubbing or the hubs are tight. i've never dealt with a folding bike, but it seems weird that wheel size would matter.

Not the actual bike wheels, but three tiny ones (like the kind on luggage cases) that are attached specifically so you can roll the bike when it's folded. You can upgrade to larger ones for about $35 or try a DIY method (like razor scooter wheels that I've seen used) to raise the whole folded bike off the ground and make rolling easier instead of carrying

edit: I figured out the problem. You can't lower the seat post all the way or it will hit the floor. There was also this little wire sticking out that was scraping the floor but I bent it up a bit so it should be fine. Still doesn't roll as well as I hoped though...

This is a video, not a bike. It's either really funny, I've had one to many beers or some combination thereof.

 That's actually a pretty funny video Daimyo! I'm like that on my bike all the time. I flip the bird (and yell & scream at cars) like it's my job.

Okay, I know it's a oversexed nightmare of technology... but damn this thing is bad ass. I just want to ride one and see if it's anywhere near reasonable for the price.

Fun but I would definitely but a motorcycle before this. Wouldn't mind having one for shits and giggles though.
