well, but still you won't deny when you buy a non vintage kaiju you're buying marketing too... the pricetag is not so cheap sometimes (specially the exclusives for toy shows) and they have multiple colorways, of course they have more variety than SB but they are aimed to adults... so i guess we can't escape to this marketing or elitist stuff.

at the end what matters is that you enjoy the toys you collect

Most (if not all ) of my vinyl toys are depictions of live action characters, or kaijin from classic TV shows. They aren't for the most part released in hundreds of color ways, especially the vintage pieces, vintage vinyls were released in a number of different sizes more often than different colors. Marmit does tend to issue a number of color ways for their sculpts. And there a few M1 issues that have been released in a number of colorways, Matango for instance. I don't buy all the colorways as it's the character that I'm buying, not the color of the paint or the vinyl.

i'm with you, Akumaizer. I'll admit that sometimes i am a sucker for colorways, but for the most part i am content with one toy with an awesome paint job.

i hear ya akumaizer! still, a bunch of chibulls or matangos in different colorways are basic.
i guess popular kaijus need different colorways or sizes or sculpts.
either way, you can own the same character, --like hedorah, to name the most popular-- in different colorways, different sculpts, different sizes... so popularity is part of marketing too. nothing bad of course, since WE LOVE THEM

the only thing I want to say in response, and this is coming from someone who does collect marmit and m-1 and loves those characters also, is that you stand by the vintage stuff saying that it has history because it comes from shows and that the new stuff does not.

however, the new stuff that we buy may not have tv shows or movies to back it up, but that doesn't mean that it can't have history, which it won't if people don't support it. it's still young and you have to give it a chance, but it could be around for years and years, just like the vintage stuff.

bounty hunter is pushing 10 years as a company already. you never know how long these other guys could keep making toys.

I like the variety of both - toys that were/are supported by kaiju/tokusatsu/sentai shows and the like and original creations from artists that were inspired by those shows. it's all great in my opinion and I don't think there's any need to be so divided about it. I know that not everyone will love everything, and that's fine. just like what you like for the reasons you do. but you don't necessarily have to knock something either.
