As an artist, how can I not look down on people making money on art, and are making it too please the crowd.
Where did the money come in too the picture? Graffiti was started by 10 - 16 years old kids, and they were not paid a nikkle for that.
Art is only out too put you down, however you will reap what you saw, through graffiti.

I really don't know what to say here. Art Basel is a great event. Many artist's participate that I like. Some that I don't like. I don't think anyone gets "Paid" for their murals that they paint on the walls. Self promotion? Yes. Demonstrating their honed craft? Yes. Selling out? No. Is every artist that participates a graffiti artist? No.

If it wasn't for some of these graffiti artists that participate then there wouldn't be a global graffiti scene like there is today. Futura, Zephyr, The first generation to paint on subway cars they participate in events like this. Some of today's generation of active graffiti writers like Rime,Retna, and Risk participate in these events. Are they sell outs because paint companies want to sponsor them and fly them around the world to participate in painting murals? Hell no!! They are fortunate enough to get paid for their skills.

Risk has been painting for 27+ years. He rocked a HUGE wall at Art Basel Miami. I will never forget him as long as I live. He has and will continue to be a great inspiration to me and many others.

So what is in your avatar? Did the guy that makes those vinyl toys sell out because he profits from his ideas?

Is Michael Jordan a sell out because he signed a contract and was paid for his skill? Or should he had kept it "Real" and just played ball on a playground for free. It's not all about the money. Nothing against graf or street artists, I just don't like labeling myself. Me and Buff Monster didn't make a dime painting that wall. We just wanted to make art. It made us feel free the couple of hours we did it. Everyone has a viewpoint on art and I respect that. Probably why art is so amazing. It's all relative. I understand your point too. Shark Toof was killing walls all over Miami and they were not legal walls. There were tons of artists getting up all over, some legal and some not. All I know is we all came together to hang out and enjoy what everyone did. Unity in art. Can you feel me? If you've never gone, I suggest you do and get up on some illegal walls if that's your thing. I'm glad I did.

I think that basel was a crazy event to have massive amounts of fun at.... That is all!!!!!!!! People read to deep into shit... As far as a graf artist goes a real graf artist is the most deversified artist out there.... The aray of talent these individuals possess Is uncany.....From throwing up at the spur of the moment and being the sickest piece... To having a studio and getting commisioned for pieces and taking thier time...

We used to run the tracks from jamaica to sunnyside (In N.Y.) rail yard throwing pieces every where.... These guys now have familys and if they can get paid for the amazing talents why shouldnt thier familys reep the benifits....
