Re: Odd finds from around the globe!
Just got back from vacation in the Riviera Maya near Cancun Mexico. I was lucky enough to score this awesome jaguar warrior mask while at Chichen Itza. Hand carved from a solid piece of cedar, no paint, all hand stained with berries/leaves/etc for color. Here is a picture of the artist holding the piece that I wound up purchasing.

Thats so cool, Incredible piece of carving, looks similar to a necromon or the yamazacura orochioni. Nice find.

Re: Odd finds from around the globe!
sancx33, I spent about 5 days on Komodo. Loved it since it was a childhood dream Ok, a few pieces from Borneo. Tribal earrings. These are really heavy and were used to extend the ear lobes, until, often, at older age the lobes would break. My main figure. About 14 inches tall. And a carved traditional Baby carrirer. The real ones were ratan and heavily beaded in the same designs.

Re: Odd finds from around the globe!
When i saw that out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw this.. That stuff it too amazing. I have a friend who sold his entire Henshin Cyborg collection and got into authentic tribal artifacts. Cannibal brain forks and wooden figures with real pubes stuck on them. Old steel rulers converted into machetes used in the Samoan revolution, with a hook on the end to pull out hamstring muscles. Cool stuff. And sometimes just sitting there at a flea market table, unless you know what to look for!

Re: Odd finds from around the globe!
Sorry I didn't reply sooner 612DudeCrew. I doubt they are very old. The tradition is pretty to most of the modern cultures and tribes on Borneo. I picked these up in '90 but they didn't come with authentications papers or the price that would have been placed on true antiques.

Re: Odd finds from around the globe!
got this piece at a weird tibetan antique store filled with a bunch of rad stuff. its reverse painted on the backside of a piece of glass with some gold paint or gold leaf thrown on there. no indications of artist or anything all i can get from it is a cucumber monster chasing a woman or something. anyone know their religious folklore around asia?

Re: Odd finds from around the globe!
^^^Very cool painting. I too have one of those Chichen Itza mask that I got in 2004, the craftsmanship is awesome. The sell tons of these there though and they guy I bought mine off of tried to trade for my watch. I also have a few smaller ones from Guatemala but they are not colored and I didn't take a picture of them when I got them.
