very true. seriously, is going to fedex/ups route really that much more expensive? you get even lower rates if you open an account with them.

UPS is more expensive and takes twice as long, at least that's how it feels when I use it from retailers. If I order something from a shop that ONLY does UPS it's like $10+ for a light/small item and it takes a fucking week. They're nice, but a WEEK! FOR THAT MUCH?! USPS may be a bunch of shit head grumps but I get my stuff faster for cheaper. HOWEVER I'll say USPS is different office-to-office. Mine is mostly good, but I've lived in areas where they've been horrible.

I don't mind USPS. It's cheaper and quicker.

Ive worked for UPS and yea everything has tracking, but every night i watched the belt load up so full the boxes started being crushed and sucked into the diverter that is supposed to guide them into the truck im loading, 50 to 100 packages will be destroyed in minutes. and nobody cares.

I have had UPS damage $1000+ wheels, I have had Fed Ex damage $1000 wheels (yeah I don't play with cars anymore), I have had the USPS open my parcel and steal the contents. I hate them all... but the least the post office could do is work extra hard on Dr. Martin Luther the King day to make up for being such a disappointment the other 360 something days of the year.

Fuck me! Shuda checked this thread before I left for the P.O. this morning. Stood there with my dick in my hand (and pkg notice), waiting for them to open up, until a kind and generous woman enlightened me that I probably should not leave the house without adult supervision on the account of me being terminally retarted. Not in so many words, of course.

Double whammy when my hopes were further deflated after arriving to the office, seeing all the other losers milling about here made me realize I have to make the whole day here.. what kinda king leaves behind a holiday like this? I x u.

The thread was intended more as a heads-up than anything else. Seems every 'bank holiday' catches some of us unawares - going out of your way to make a trip to a closed PO can be frustrating, as can expecting the arrival of prized booty when it's locked up in the same place - so hopefully the post saved a couple of headaches.

Nefasth forgot to mention that you are lucky if you can get postal delivery (or service) even during a scheduled working day, not even accounting for the terrible hours postal outlets operate under. Then there are the days it snows where you can pretty much know that no one is going to be making the rounds that day. Canada Post kinda seems to operate under the "if I feel like it" umbrella of customer service and parcel delivery. I am not saying they are all bad, I just would like a bit of improvement considering the ridiculous charges we incur.

My complaint is more about what I get for what I pay for vs. being impatient about not getting a toy on the day to celebrate the work of a civil rights activist. (snark intended)

^^^not trying to be a buzzkill but I'm pretty sure people giving a damn about the work of a civil rights activist went out the window for most people in around '87. I'm pretty sure people now only care about sleeping in and watching daytime television^^^

Post Re: Worst days of the year for (American) toy collectors...
I have used USPS Priority for domestic packages for years with very few minor problems. BUT, the last 6 months or so I've had several issues; a package (shipped to me) containing about $350 worth of Marmits has just disappeared, packages (that I have shipped to others) being held with no notice to the recipient, substitute carriers (seem more common now than before) leaving packages at the base of my mailbox by the street instead of on my porch, to name just a few. Insuring packages doesn't seem to make a difference either. Don't know what's going on but I've lost a lot of confidence in USPS.

Well every day is the 'worst day of the year' when dealing with the Canadian Post!
