I was age 10 or so at a party that my Uncle put together.
Lots of adults, few kids, all sorts of food.

I was munching down these appetizers, some sort of meat on a toothpick.

My Uncle noticed and asked me if I wanted to know what it was.

He opens the fridge and takes out a complete cow tongue.....

It's actually a trip to eat at McDonalds in Japan... they're clean. The employees are polite and seat you and then bring you your order. The food actually looks like the pictures. When I was there, Filet-o-fish were just 100 yen each... I was in heaven.

at least he didn't tell you it was the cow from your favorite book or something!!

100 YEN for Fillet of Fish? I remember seeing a chart of comparing the world's MacDonald prices in the FACE magazine and Hong Kong is the cheapest. Fillet here is about 166Yen.. and a set meal is 347Yen. Maybe its the exchange rate US -> Yen is better?

I was just hanging out with my moms buddy, an 84 year old Chinese guy, and he was just telling me about Dragon, Tiger, Phoenix soup. Freaks me out about the cat thing. He always talks about having a shot of live snake bile and whiskey after playing mahjong for like 24 hours.

Glenn! Nothing says as much about a culture as their food. Searching out good chow is always a priority when I vacation, even when toys are involved.

Do they offer up any "odd" pizza toppings in Japan? You can get a packet of sesame oil at McDonalds in China for the fries, so wrong, but so good!

Oh I have lived it too I worked in a restaurant in college, and was a waiter at a high end restaurant for a couple of years. Food service is a wonderful thing isn't it?

I'm with ya. I like to try it at least once to see how it differs. Japan has the teriyaki burgers, and the UK has veggie burgers that is basically a mushy veg patty fried. They have curry sauce for the fries, as well! In Japan, I remember seeing that Pizza Hut had a pizza with link sausages (basically hot dogs) baked into the crust. Looked good, but I'm sure tasted awful. You gotta eat the local stuff, too.

Yes, extremely difficult. They don't quite understand the meaning of the word here.

I'll third that, though there's some good stuff that's easy to find like yasai tempura, udon, soba....lots of restaurants have salads too. I had a great veggie meal at a restaurant in that little walking area next to Nakano Broadway (not the long corrdidor, just outside of it). We had to wait for a table. so they gave us little cans of Kirin to hold us over while we waited.

Thats crazy! When I get to Japan I am going to mac sushi till I grow gills!

if your vegan man..go to the food dtores. excellent fruit, veggies,noodlestofu etc etcc. much better than anything here.

you've got to love the international mc'donalds experience..last time i was in japan,,,they had the EIB burger,,,,a shrimp/prawn sandwich,,,yummy!!!

new zealand has the mckiwi burger with beetroot and an egg...or the brazilian mcnifico burger (although i don't know what is different about it to a quarter pounder)....

i am off to japan in two weeks,,,going to live off of egg salad sandwiches from the lawsons (they make them REAL special) and big cans of mountain dew (you can't get the lovely dew in the uk )...
