I received a Boris the Bee for free from Gomora63 a couple weeks ago, it's not like we talked a lot, or anything, he just said he got an extra in a blind box, saw that I was looking for a one, and decided to pass it on. It was a very nice little hand-paint. It was also a nice gesture, and it didn't clog up the BST for a week.

I did a giveaway around a month ago, and I can totally see why people would be irritated. If you're following the BST, than your e-mail inbox is being clogged, with "56.Slipstar01 Thanks so much for doing this", every time you turn around.

Even Dikasaur's giveaway a little while back, was great. 5 names and it was done, and he gave people some amazing things, in the form of blind boxes (illu illu altered man, comes to mind).

When some of the long time members complain about things, it's not because they're bitter old grumps, that are trying to stop fun, and good times, usually there's a legitimate reason behind it. The longer I'm here the more I see that it's true.

Giveaways aren't the only thing that are clogging up the BST lately. Some threads have been bumped to hell and back and most folks (except petite) don't so much as bat an eye.

If you move 'giveaways' to keep the BST clean, it follows that you should keep the actual sales threads cleaner too.

This new phenomenon is the dumbest thing I've seen since I first found this board...and it bums me out that the whatever section is going to be muddied up now like the sale section has been.

Also, I don't understand why some people complain about people wanting to give away some of their toys (besides the whole bogging down the sales and whatever thread).

In my opinion, the toys are rarely "unwanted crap" if ever. I won an awesome and beautiful seagool from bbb not too long ago (which I still need to post pics of, sorry for the delay), which I'm sure most people would not call this "unwanted crap". Winning this seagool inspired me to try to do a giveaway of my own. The one thing that I wanted to giveaway hasn't arrived at my house yet, and I have no idea when it will. Since I couldn't find anything in my collection that I wanted to part with, I went out to Rotofugi and bought a small item to giveaway. It's nothing much since I didn't have any spending money at the time, but I hope it's something that others would appreciate. I'm really slow with taking pictures, so that's what has been stopping me from putting up the giveaway. However, all of this complaining is really discouraging me from wanting to put one up at this point. I still am going to since I bought the toy for this reason, but I might just wait to see if a separate "giveaway" section will open up first.

I personally feel that a lot of these giveaways were started as a way to spread good/positive karma around this board. Something good happened to that person, and they wanted to spread the cheer. Not necessarily a "I can't sell this crap, so I'm going to give it away", although I'm sure this has happened a couple of times, but there isn't any harm in that.

I totally agree that these giveaways can and have bogged down the BST and the Whatever forum. This doesn't really bother me on a personal level, but I can see how it can annoy others. Therefore, I think that creating a new forum subsection in the "Market Place" would be a great solution/compromise.

I find it hilarious (and kind of sad) that people are complaining about clogging up a thread that is called 'whatever'.

Looking at some of the dump-nuggets of random non-toy rubbish in there, I would think a giveaways thread would class up the whole joint.

its the internet. no one is forcing you to look at these threads.

i dont like sports so i dont click those threads, i dont watch the walking dead so i dont click that thread. im not whining and complaining about these threads clogging anything, its just a simple fact that i dont check out the posts and read them.

if i see a for sale thread with grody- i dont go in, and there are tons of them. lets make a grody ghetto. its clogging the for sale thread.

if people giving away toys isnt your thing, then just get over it. its not stupid, most people are trying to give back to the community that they enjoy being a part of.

im not taking any of this personally in any way, im just fed up with most everyones entitlement to "their slice of the internet"

just quit complaining and enjoy the toys you have, no matter which way they came into your possession

I've been meaning to chime in on this since I recently did my own giveaway, but Michael managed to say everything I would have wanted to -- Very well put. I don't see any wrong whatsoever in giving away something you no longer want. Whether it's a vinyl toy, or furniture, clothes, whatever, it should not be frowned upon. No, I'm not a hippie.

Like I said before I have zero issue with anyone's kind gestures. I think some of the issue people were having is that they were becoming so prevelant and random. The BST is for sales and trades. You just don't want the board to start looking like a giant craigslist! "Wait is this a toy I'm looking for? No damn it's another give away for what? A blanket? WTF?"

Obviously an extreme example but what's to stop it from heading that way? Giving away toys to help a fellow collector- no problem, just lets keep it orderly. If enough people want a giveaway section I don't have issue with that at all.
