I like making shadow puppets on the wall, though sometimes I scare myself.

I get the feeling that the powers that be don't want to lay down the law because some of the members that are fond of have little to no self control. They know that they'd have to boot some people that are actually pretty cool (most of the time). They probably just don't want it to have to come to that.

Just speculating.

Conversely, there are those members that always seem to be the center of drama and the powers that be allow them to remain as well, so it's not like they're playing favorites.

Then it'll be interesting once they do lay down the law to see what will happen. I think it will change many people's behaviour here. I am saying for both newbs and oldschoolers here. It may work out better in the long run.

Yep, it will be interesting... I always find it interesting when some people post that they have a right to post here, or that they have a right to do this or that on this board.

This is a misconception. The truth is that posting here is a privilege, not a right.

I am at the point where I just want brief intelligent commentary and discussion on these friggin vinyl things. And nothing more.

No politics. No pissing contests. No poking bears with sticks.
No ramblings. No fragile egos posting their scores.

I am cutting back from this board and others.
I may have transgressed some tranz grasses in the past. I apologize.
But I just see all of this and it gets old.

I really wish this place had an ignore/filter button. I've been trying.

Perhaps that is what makes me such an attractive target for the many compulsive baiters and flamers that populate this board. They know that they can get a rise out of me because I am willing to defend myself.
Here's what is really happening: by defending yourself, you are giving them exactly what they want: an emotional reaction. You may hope that somehow they will be exposed as fools and you will be vindicated when people agree with you, but it's not going to work out that way. Even if it did it would contribute nothing to the long-term health of the board.

Trust me. I've seen this drama played out a thousand times online over the last twenty years.

So here's my suggestion. Don't take things so personally and let things roll off your back. If you start threads like this one, one that promotes a straightforward discussion without trying to push any buttons, and people act like jerks to you, then just let them act like jerks. Others will see them act like jerks, and hopefully those others will avoid starting more conflict by not calling them out on it. It's that simple.

I have this to say to everybody: there are more and more people coming to this place every day as the magazine gains exposure. You are acting like idiots in front of a larger and larger audience. If you want this place to grow like the magazine is, then you're going to have to change and adapt instead of this petty crap that goes on here day in, day out.

And I'll go one step further (what the hell, may as well overstep at this point), and speak for the people that run this place by saying that they think that all of the drama that goes on here is stupid and pointless, and they have no idea why any of it happens. They mention it almost every time I talk to them about the board. If you keep demonstrating this to them, then this place will cease to exist one day.

- as a newbie here's my 2 cents............ I totally agree with what Roger said.....

- Geo asked a question to start a conversation....... fine.

- some people responded with their opinion to his question....fine

- a couple of people responded with attacks at Geo............ they shouldn't have, because it was his opinion & he is entitled to it.........but they did and Geo should have ignored them........when he responded to their attacks it just incited them to attack more.....

- what interests me is how a few people said they are not going to read all this bullshit & how it has no place on the forum, but there they are 3 pages later, still posting on the same subject............ if you aren't interested = just skip the post! I for one, enjoy the bickering & find it interesting.

- as for the original discussion that Geo brought up - Super7 is their magazine & they can print whatever they want........if you like it, buy it......
If you don't like it, don't buy it.......it's that simple......... no need to jump on Geo's back, as he only asked a philosophical question as to where people think the magazine is headed......... he didn't say one way was better than the other....

In conclusion (this sounds like a legal brief) I have 3 points:
(1) there's no need for the personal attacks
(2) there's no need for Geo to respond to the attacks once they are made
(3) Geo's pictures are GREAT and I find them one of the most interesting
attractions on Skullbrain
