Post Record Collectors-Is anyone on Discogs?
I am setting up a list and have some questions about things.

ie: How do you add albums? (I'm finding stuff I own or want is missing from the listings)

Also, I have some things in multiple colors of vinyl, is there a way to denote which is which? I can only see an option to "Add to collection" but no way to say "Green Vinyl version"

If you're on there, I'm missym

I'm on there missy. I'm Lixx (big surprise right? ) Discogs is ruled by a bunch of prat mods who are super meticulous about listings. I.E. it has to be exactly word for word the way it looks on the vinyl (credits etc). I've had my submissions changed for not putting a space in between something (catalog etchings). It use to be only mods could change things but now any jackass with a bootleg copy thinking you're wrong can update your entry. I've had numerous flame wars with jackwads who think they know what they're talking about but don't.

Anyhow in regards to your color vinyl question. In a perfect world it would be great if they could all be listed in one listing, but being meticulous as they are, each colored vinyl edition would have to be listed separately! Here is an example off the top of my head:

my list right now is mosly one band i obsess over, i haven't put other records on it yet. I kinda stopped when I realized much of what I have or want is not listed. (I dig dig dig for the most obscure stuff from them). I'll work on it more soon. :) Thanks for the info Lixx

Bringing this back to the surface. I hunched over my shelf for several hours yesterday w/ the laptop. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through, but let's be pals.

Good tastes missy!

I'm there as well (same old petitetoilonrouge, viewtopic.php?f=5&t=38329) but am waaaaay too lazy to update my collection. Used to be a freelance music journo, have close to 10,000 cds/albums/tapes... I've been slowly ripping my collection into iTunes for years now. Vinyl is killing me.

Has anyone tried that Master or whatever it's called thing on iTunes whereas it upgrades your cds to better quality files for a fee?

I've been on there recently, haven't set up an account yet.

I dug out all of my old house/techno/etc records recently and I'm trying to fill in some gaps. There is some great stuff available on there for very little money.

There's definitely some deals and gems to found on there. The fact that it's not easy to search probably helps this. You've got to watch out for people listing that they have some kind of variant collectors would be looking for, but really just lazily listed a regular release.

The douches that run Discogs are raising their fees:

To enable the hiring of additional staff and improve our level of service to you, we're going to be increasing Marketplace selling fees effective May 1st, 2012.

Items sold on or after that date will have the following fees:

8% for Standard Listings
10% for Product Search Listings
(a $0.10 minimum fee will remain in place)
Invoices sent on or after May 1st, 2012 will now be due 10 days after the invoice date.

Increasing fees is something we try to do as infrequently and with as much notice as possible. Our last fee increase was almost 3 years ago in July 2009. As a result we've made a number of significant improvements to Discogs:

grew our team from 4 people to 9 people
delivered over 1,300 features and bug fixes
increased conversion rate in the Marketplace by more than 84%
more than doubled the number of servers, making the site faster and more reliable
This fee increase will allow us to:

bring on additional software developers, so that we can add additional features
hire a customer support rep based in Europe, so that we can respond to requests in a more timely manner, and in multiple languages
improve our marketing efforts, to increase site awareness and expand our user base
continue investing in new hardware to keep Discogs fast and stable
We sincerely thank you for choosing to sell on Discogs and we look forward to your continued success.

Kevin

I really find it hard to believe they need to raise their fees by what seems 33% to cover hiring 4-9 people. It's such a bare bones site. This place banks on fees. Seems any place whether it be ebay, amazon, discogs is really trying to kill sellers making any money off their own items. Someone needs to create an alternate place to sell online and not have it be some weird flight by night looking site no one would use.

all these years i never quite utilized Discogs to the 'User' extent. didn't know you can actually sell and buy records there. thanks for the info guys. now that i know this is available, it's time to get my Throbbing Gristle fix :)

seems like almost or visually everything's in there, though you can score cheap on eBay as well.

as a vinyl nerd, I feel like I need to make an account on here. a friend was saying it's a much better venue for selling rather than eBay

I've bought tons of records, tapes and CDs via Discogs over the years. It's an awesome site for music nerds.
