I know this has been discussed elswhere, notably here and much before that in this thread, but FU to people limiting shipping to the US only. I can't even count the number of times I have missed out on stuff I wanted (and would have gladly paid more for) due to "Buyer Requirements." If you are going to set these, at least be up front about it, and while you are it, why not provide some justification for that. America (who else would refer to themselves collectively by the name of two continents ) is great and all, but it is only one country in a big world, after all. Ease up and give the rest of us a chance, huh.

Never understood the "only in USA" thing but I assume it's about convenience and cost. When I ship a toy I almost always eat part of the shipping cost. However, there's nothing wrong with advising the buyer that they're expected to pay 100% of the shipping, thus even if shipping is costly, it won't cost the seller anything.

Some have voiced objection to shipping to certain countries where the mail service has a poor reputation. Don't want to get caught up in a situation where it looks like the toy wasn't sent even though it actually was.

Ok. I don't know how many times this is going to be discussed but.....

My fool proof system is to NOT USE the USPS and use a reliable private postal service like DHL, UPS, or FedEx. Then tell the buyer that they need to front the cost for that service, OR just include that in the overall cost.

Doing anything else is lazy, in that you're literally avoiding filling out one single slip of paper (customs form).

I guess this is sort of obvious but I had a thought a few days ago while listening to a podcast about the historical Nazi demonization of "degenerate" art: For all its rationalizations, theories, detailed promulgations and complex social theories, Nazism is just plain stupid. Hm, this is turning into a different thread, so apologies to anyone annoyed by the divergence.

I could ramble on for days in response to that question. Been concerned about the rise of the peculiarly USA-American form of fascism rising in this country since approx, 1980 when conservatives expediently hopped into bed with the so-called religious right, who openly declared cultural civil war. Hateful extremist rhetoric coming from the right wing has increased manifold since that time, as we all know. Even having watched this degrading of the formerly Grand Old Party occurring over the years, I've been shocked at a lot of what's been coming from the right during this past year. A woman who uses birth control is a "slut?" Gay people who want equal rights under law are seeking to destroy the institution of marriage? Affordable health care is Communism? Hateful and destructive idiocy.

However I have a great deal of respect for more old-fashioned forms of conservatism to which I can relate: National sovereignty and self-reliance, reasonably strong defense, fiscal prudence, minding one's own business, etc. The GOP of my very conservative grandfather would be considered "progressive" by today's GOP. He would have loathed the pompous pulpit sanctimony of jerks like Santorum, although on the other hand he was no friend of the hippies.

I totally understand where you're coming from bbb but to be pedantic about it, I can't think of any examples of Santorum saying specifically racist/white supremacist things, although you do get a bit of that vibe from him by general accounting of his divisive, narrow-minded and very bigoted views. I'm pretty careful about ascribing racism ... I'd have no problem calling Pat Buchanan or Glenn Beck racists, as I believe the evidence of their own words serves to indict them. Santorum is obviously a raging homophobe, disrespectful of the independence of women, and IMO a dullard. So in at least those ways he does lean heavily towards oppressive fascistic ideology.

Your grandfather's GOP is one I would actually be very interested in... lord knows we need more of that in either party. As for Santorum being a racist, there were those two "gaffes" where he supposedly singled out black people people for recieving entitlement benefits and called Obama a "white house n**". I guess all that really matters now is that there is no way that he'll ever be our president. Thank god for that.
