Post Designer Toy Awards
Although I think some of the nominations are a bit strange and questionable, Super big congrats to SKINNER, Splurrrt and his Cadaver Kid for making the lists multiple times.
http://www.designertoyawards.com/categories

I think some honorable mentions (actually should have been nomimated) should go to MVH and his new Death Sludgie, Paul Kaiju, Greg/Lamour for the GIANT Bootleg release, and Luke and the EnMan Medico release (why the Mucky Monsters?!).
Maybe sprinkle in some Bwana in too and better Super7 release picks in there also.

Yeah when custom 1-offs are being admitted as "Sofubi toy of the year" it makes you think the people setting this thing up are a little bit off track. What about Frenzy, 5 Star Toys, Marmit, Skull Head Butt, Fer Christ sakes, they even left out the Gorilla-Ju. I do think this whole thing is meant to be a fun time for makers to get together, tip a few back, and act like rock stars for a night. Maybe some of the choices are made according to whether or not the designers can make it to the event?

Also if Trampt get's a Blog nomination, than Skullbrain should as well, (meaning trampt isn't a blog.)

If you guys want just make an account and add your favorites yourself, i'll probably be adding a few. (given certain categories don't allow you to add, but sofubi isnt one of them)

because regardless of anyone wanting to acknowledge it 99% of the toys we buy are "designer" regardless of what country they come from, do you buy them for kids to play with?no?then yes they are designer

Post Re: Designer Toy Awards
I have a huge fucking collection of "real" toys which have much more design and fore thought than 99% of the crap we see on this board.
So no, I don't care or consider them "designer."
Let the wanna be graffiti artists have their awards shows.
Or did everyone hope that their hallowed hype machines would get acknowledged?
Those 5 nags release a month really make an impact on the real world.

It's a hoax! I suggest we all leave.

Everything or nothing should be read in purple.

It annoys me because the whole idea and process are bullshit, but when someone like Carl wins, you still have to congratulate him.

You'd still have to press some buttons and move your eyeballs.

oh shit, how did i miss this thread?!

1st off, i MUST comment on the yawning emoticon thing.
including one is pointless. its the same as the eye-rolling thing.
equally as snooty.

2nd: i am so OVER and have come to accept the addition of the phrase "designer" to toys here on skullbrain. what offends me is the word toys added onto the end of designer. so lame. designer isn't playable. its fashionable.

skullbrainers posting about designer toys does not surprise me at all. what i really don't get though is that d.unny still has a word filter on it. because kidrobot boardies and skullbrainers are pretty much the same thing.

Post Re: Designer Toy Awards
S7 included "designer toy" in their ads for their 11th anniversary. I think everyone has stopped pretending.

And since I'm easily pushed into old debates, whatever you call them, "designer toys" do represent something that is recognizable and different from "regular" toys you'll find at Walmart. Stores that sell them don't usually carry "regular" toys, but sell a bunch of designer items (shirts, prints, books, houseware, whatever).

Carry on.
