Ahhhhhhh, at long last. Vigilence does pay off. Very stoked you finally got this guy, and he looks fantastic! Thundermask is such a great character, and this sculpt is no exception. It is just amazing how awesome some of these bootlegs are. Now for that jumbo.....

Hahahahahaha I know I did James! I might have another twin brother to post with this guy soon- also a bootleg. This guy is around 11 inches tall. I'd love to know more about the history of these bootlegs. Hopefully some vintage guys will come out and school me.

I always hope when I start topics people post their own collections of the same toy or maybe even get inspired to post toys no one sees here often. There are so many collectors that never post their amazing collections here.

Post Re: Thundermask
That's true, but unfortunately most of my vintage is in storage at the moment as I am away at school. Excuses, excuses, I know. I agree we need to see more random collection shots though. It is a shame that for bootlegs, with all the excellent sculpting work someone did, there is rarely a self-identifying mark. Just to think there are all these unrecognised geniuses of sofubi from several decades who will never get any recognition.

I agree Ultra. What makes me stop and ponder also is that a lot of these shows had extremely short runs on TV or were very short in length. To even have toys made for them is so bizarre by todays standards. I guess it was all promotion, and at the time (1970's) it might have been the best way to suck kids in.

Damn, I wanted to go with the oooh and aaah James! :D Still, great toy!

I see what you mean with the close-up issues. I have the same problem. My pics often look fine on the camera's (or phone's) screen, but when transfered to the computer, they're blurry. Nothing to do but take lots of shots (and use a tripod!). Not to hijack the thread with something definitely not vintage, but most of my shots look like this:

A pro photographer friend of mine is supposed to lend me a proper lens, I can't wait to have some fun with it!

Oh wow this is looking nice, you've been busy. That masked one is great. This is how it starts, first one shelf, then one case then...

Thanks Jonathan. I've actually slowed to a crawl. A few things trickle through though. You vintage guys have been a bad influence that is for sure!

Really liking the new shelf. The removeable mask Thundermask is great! It's hilarious how even the bootlegs have the same looking 'Bandai' head. It is like all the heroes are clones that walked into a costume shop and decided to outfit an army.

I don't know if I noticed it before. Is that mid-size Redman up front a Popy or Bullmark? I really like this scale, so I might have to find one of him for myself. :)

It is pretty hilarious that they all have the same head. I know the Bandai Thundermask (which I don't own) has a more squatty looking one. The smaller Redman and Thundermask are both Popy. Here is a better pic of those from a few months back:

Peter that one photo was edited with pixlr-o-matic, same idea as instagram though. Took some shot of my extended Thundermask family this morning. I love that removable mask guy so much:

I really like the lime green of your removeable mask version, and his bright red belt really sets it off. Pity the paint around the helmet couldn't be just a tad tidier - but I am being extremely picky now. (Just trying to reduce my jealousy to tolerable levels  )

Normally I go crazy for removable masks, but I think that the small one has the most charming sculpt of the three.

Giant Bandai is HUGE! At least 15 inches. Now If I can just find a mask for it! Can't complain though got the deal of the century on this supposedly 'junk' toy.

Definite Giant awesomeness right there man. That was definitely the find of some time. Your collection is coming along stellarly. Even without the mask, the new addition looks so great in line with all the others.

Oh I love it, don't get me wrong. No mask and very cheap vs mask and pay 30000 yen- big difference. I also don't think the mask makes the value go up much either. I just happened to find a super deal regardless. Just a mask would give me that "warm complete figure" feeling inside. It's the completist in me. Now if I can find it, and the squatty standard sized Bandai with a mask. I can sort of knock off looking at Thundermask for a bit (although there are different bootlegs out there I'm sure- see my want list).
