Hopefully this doesn't sound too stupid, but does Medicom take international orders, and, if so...how does someone with only a tentative grasp of nihongo go about doing it?

it varies by release.

medicom does take international orders for certain stuff. normally they will specify it on the product listing.
however given that the gorz pair will likely be quite a small run, i think it probably wouldn't make it for international sales.

it's japan only and because of the limited run you end up paying double the listed price using an agent.
i'm going to keep collecting pictures for the time being.

Drat. Oh well. Collect the rare stuff and that's what happens, right?

Here is my trick for ordering directly from Medicom's Rakuten shop. I have pulled it off many times and plan on doing so for this release as well.

Save yourself crazy third party shipping fees! There is a nice tutorial over on Tenso explaining the process in more detail.

Edit: One more thing.. Medicom splits their new release online inventory between their main site, Rakuten shop and Yahoo Shopping site.

Having a hell of a time working out what to put on Rakuten for city/ward, and shipping address. Man, and I thought it was hard to mail stuff in the States...

EDIT:

If you are logged into Tenso, it will pre-populate your Tenso ID number (TSXXXX) in your Street Address when you click on the above links. If not, it will just read “TS00000”. Make sure you have your actual ID entered on Rakuten.

Quick follow-up on the Tenso/Rakuten stuff...

I noticed that Tenso recently added "通販商品配送サービス ＴＥＮＳＯ 取次ぎ" to the shipping address section on my account. Basically they are now adding that "this is a Tenso forwarding service address," and want you to add this to your address on Rakuten, Amazon or wherever.

My concern is that this may cause companies like Medicom who do not ship overseas to not even ship to a Japanese address if they think you live outside of Japan. I cannot be sure of this though.

I set up my Rakuten account many years ago, and decided not to add this new bit. I just ordered something from another company and no one from Tenso said anything when the package arrived. It certainly is not needed on the Rakuten end to place an order. Just a matter if Tenso will get pissed.
