Post Collection Intervention - SyFy Network
While watching Silence of the Lambs, I saw this short commercial for a new show premiering at SyFy on August 14. Link is below:

http://www.syfy.com/collectionintervention

I am intrigued. As I know my house is starting to look a little cluttered with all our toys. But I don't know how I feel about someone coming in to my home and telling me to basically sell parts of my collection. It's not like I am crawling on top of crap to get to a room like hoarders. So I am curious to see what is considered an unhealthy collection, the collectors they profile and what they have.

Anyone else going to check it out?

Hey Nate :)

Yeah, I too am not sure how I feel about the entire concept, but I'm excited to see it for the TOYS :D

I didn't catch the part of the commercial where he was advised to sell off some of his collection though. Ha, doesn't she know that he'd just get it back

Honestly, aside from that issue, if the designer / organizer is good at what she does, it'll be done to the collector's tastes. Plus, I bet there will be some valuable tips.

More than the numbers in his collection, I bet the "unhealthy" part lay within the level of his obsession / addiction, dictating his priorities & how he lets it affect other areas in his life & those around him. Of course it's always about finding that balance, though some of us just can't & it's either all or nothing; that addictive personality. A hoarder would be the extreme here. Do any of you guys consider yourself hoarders?.. But Yeah, it'll be neat to hear what they have to say about it.

I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Alright, so which one of you is the 1st episode about? ;)

Huge SW collections always make me cringe. I think that's why I was initially slow on the uptake when Star Case first started producing their line of toys.

I love to see nicely displayed collections...hoping that is what this show is going to do...help folks display their collections and not sell them :)

I bet it is full of nagging spouses trying to force reasonable collectors to sell of their prized possessions. I will reserve judgement for now.

If you look real close at the Robot collector episode you may get to see me making a fool out of myself. They shot part of the episode here at TAG the other day and let's just say it was, ummmmm well, ahhhhh you know, well, interesting. :?

This show absolutely sounds fantastic.I love see huge collections that take over homes. It's not something I want or want to be a part of but there's something truly amazing about seeing that. I'm more in awe...that people are able to fund something like that.

I remember some posted about this guy Lawrence Cobbold's bird obession and I was amazed.

I will most definitely be watching this only because I love to see what other collectors are into. Star Wars collections are boring as shit, though. Thanks for the heads up.

Haha, "Are any of us hoarders?" Have you seen Mark's collection? :)

Shit, I've been thinking about trimming down my 3 1/2 full detolfs to just my favorites. If I had cable I'd watch this show at least a bit.

Haha, can't wait! SO cool they visit TAG. Hope it makes it into the final edit!

Well, I guess love it, or hate it, it'll still be a fun watch.

This is inspiring. Find someone with a nice collection & show up for an 'intervention'. After persuading them they need help, offer assistance by allowing them to unburden themselves by giving everything to you.
How fucking altuistic is that?

If someone ever tried an intervention with me I'd mindfuck them so hard that they'd immediately seek therapy as to why they lead such a boring pathetic existence in normalcy land!

I mean sure some of these collectors might have problems, can be too obsessive, hoarding, financial issues, but for the most part it's fun and completely healthy. I hate how they try to stereotype every collector as 'ok something is wrong here'.

Part of me curious as hell but I don't want to spoil it either. Now I am definitely looking forward to the show. I guess the short commercial only profiled the more "popular" collections. Or in the case of the theme of the show, "accumulations".

This is exactly what I go through every month.

I have the preview DVD and apparently it's a little less painful than that. The host assesses what is most valuable to the collector, both monetarily and emotionally, and helps the family create a plan of action: what to sell off that will be least painful, etc. The first episode is about a Star Wars and a Catwoman collection.

Also, being that it's styled after a "reality show", I'm sure half of the back-stories (as to why they need an intervention) are fake and it's just an excuse to show off awesome collections.
