 Re: Snoop Lion?
Wait a god damned second. So, Major Lazer reused their production from this track for La La La? What the fuck? Am I the first person to realize this? I knew I recognized it as soon as it started. Guess not according to the mixtape track's Youtube comments, haha. "Seen." - Snoop Lion

 Re: Snoop Lion?
Fair enough, I didn't know the origins of the riddim I just assumed Major Lazer created it. Still, kind of lazy on Diplo's part.

 Re: Snoop Lion?
Not sure what to think. I certainly don't mind the use and re-use of riddims - in fact, it's integral to the music. But if Snoop is just gonna fake patois over standard riddims that's pretty weak - if he's actually sincere about being Snoop Lion he should work on some original music and slide some riddims in sparsely. I'm more impressed with that guy's hi-fi than I am with La La La.

I know what I think, I think it's plain and simple awful Just listened to it, can't stand hearing this clown putting on a Jamaican accent and I just think the overall track is lame. Talking of Studio One I'll go back and invest my time on the king: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIf_UR4qv9s

 Re: Snoop Lion?
The more I think about it, the fake Jamaican accent is just plain offensive. What a stupid thing to do.
Otherwise, this thread has totally re-ignited my love of Reggae ... I saw that I only had a few Jackie Mittoo tracks so I ordered some albums as well as a bunch of Studio One stuff ... listening to my favorite '70s Burning Spear and '80s Black Uhuru and many of the Trojan box sets. Thanks, Skullbrain!

I can't really critique the song because I spent more time typing this than listening to that trash. It's just silly...Silly like the man who came up with a clown selling hamburgers...

 Re: Snoop Lion?
Yup - the track is awful. I finally listened to it all the way through, and it's terrible. But I agree, Dean - this thread has got me back to listening to some of my favorite reggae/dub, and for that I'm thankful. It's a shame - I like Major Lazer, Mad Decent, but it doesn't appear that they can do much to help Snoop. If he just rapped over some good ML/MD production I could see it potentially being good, but neither the music nor the lyrics are worth listening to. Lazy all the way around.

 Re: Snoop Lion?
^^ i dunno about all this hating on Snoop . . . !! The track is a bit weak but i personally don't think its THAT bad. The fact its a version of some other track speaks volumes though . . . co-opting Jamaican patois on the record wasn't a great idea either. Have you seen the documentary trailer? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTqyV5Kw9SsI hope he donated a big chunk of his reported $110 Million fortune into the towns and communities he visited in Jamaica . . . and i don't mean just buying some studio time and sacks of weed Hey, at the very least he's turning people on to a ton of great music!
