The small blue figure is a regular issue figure from the Marmit "Vinyl Para baby" series and was in fact, with its partner, one of the ONLY two Marmit figures shown in Hyper Hobby Dash6 in clear blue.

Hyper Hobby Dash 6 isn't anywhere near comprehensive, especially for the Marmit VPs. A much more thorough, although still not 100% complete, reference is Quanto magazine #168. For example, where HH Dash-6 only shows 3 VP Gameras, Quanto 168 shows 11.

At least half the VPs shown in Quanto 168 include clear blue versions (sometimes more than one), and often refers to release dates (month & year); for example, the clear blue G'62 was released July 1999. Quanto also shows a few unpainted beige figures, and in cases where there's a text reference nearly all of those are referred to as 'テストショット' ('test shot'). I have not been able to find a single clear blue figure so referenced.

I won't say it's impossible that some of the unpainted beige VPs were officially released as event exclusives; I'm sure it's happened a few times (it's definitely been done with later figure lines). However unless there's a VP which was produced as a painted translucent blue, then I seriously doubt any of the unpainted clear blue ones are test shots.

To V Duck,

How many clear blue Marmit figures do you have in the bag with header cards?
Or how many have you seen with bags and header cards ?

Thanks, BC

Lots. I've seen 'em in bags and I've seen the header cards that identify them as show exclusives. I've got a Japanese reference that says when many of them were released, and also describes the beige ones as test shots (and not once for any of the translucents).

By contrast, your evidence appears to be that they're relatively hard to find (which, btw, is true of many non-translucent show exclusives) and that the ones you have don't have bags. Which doesn't mean they never did, just that you didn't get them that way.

Thanks for your reply and the info.

Can you put a number on "Lots", for instance how many Clear Blue Marmit figures with bags and header cards do you have in your collection? This would be very helpful.

Thanks

As for myself, I too have seen "lots" of MIB clear blue Marmit VP exclusives in the dealer's rooms at the various US kaiju conventions I've attended over the past six years (G-Fest and AFFE). As for the nine clear blue exclusives in my collection, I purchased seven of them mint in bag with header card. In addition to the group pic I posted earlier, here is a MIB Mothra as well as two of my newer "blues" along with all the respective header cards, most with the gold foil Exclusive "Special Ltd Edition" labels.

Is that just a clear, or with glitter. The photo makes it look like bubbles from a bubble bath. Amazing.

Both are clear translucent blue figures: the Mosu-Goji Godzilla '64 and the same Matango as Geo's. I guess the "bubbles" effect is due to the light bounced up from the header cards from the flash.

I'll try taking some better pics later of just the figure(s) to emphasize the "bubbles" effect ... thx for pointing it out !!

Whats the Marmit story? those people are geniuses.

what the hell does Marmit mean?

Yes, what is the deal with the light cardboard headers? Do they mean something different then the full color headers?

Just that the more plain headers went out with the early releases starting in 1996. Just a bit later, the more showy headers came out with the splashy colors. And subsequent releases of the same figures got the newer color header.

Lots more info about the Marmit Vinyl Paradise line here, def my favorite series of kaiju figures.

I hate to be that guy, but that particular Mongler is actually from the Monster Heaven line, not the Vinyl Paradise series. No big thing, just trying to clarify for the purpose of identification, because there is also a Mongler from the VP line that is different. Just sayin'.

There is a general Marmit collection thread here too.

Oh that's cool. I just thought Vinyl Paradise was like, a general term. I'll delete it and put it in the right thread. Don't worry you're not "that guy" :P
