 Re: For Doctor Who fans
I'm always grateful they didn't muck it up and have the Doctor have a relationship w/Pond. It's way better, and more interesting, just to have a married couple going through some shit.

I completely agree. It lets the show go places it could not otherwise.

Even though the actor's young, I feel like he's more of an old grandpa inside (kinda is.) Smith plays that real well.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
I really like the way they handled the companions for the eleventh Doctor. The initial flirtiness/tension was great, especially when Moffat added a great character like Rory. They work so well together, and you always know that (despite what happened with that terrible 'clone') the Doctor will never be able to have any longterm relationship - so putting a companion like Amy, such an obvious temptress and one who has been in love with her raggedy doctor since she was a girl, with a dark (in that sad, old way) Doctor who shows her her own appreciation for Rory throughout the past season, has been great.
A really strong start to [post-2005] season 7. I really hope they can keep up this high standard.

Lighter fare this week, but giant fun nonetheless. I think we're in good hands, Steve,
As an added treat - the bickering robots, always a good trope, were voiced by Mitchell & Webb!

That is definitely what makes Matt Smith so great as the Doctor. Those heavy lidded eyes of his look so old. You can really beloved he's 900 and seen so much.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
Yeah good stuff. Dino's in space. I read an interview about who the villains will be and where they'll be for the final Pond episode. Kinda upset I did, they were vague but I think I pieced too much together. Still excited to see what happens though.
Of the 3 newer Doctors Smith is growing to be me favorite. I was never die-hard, but I just enjoy him more then 9 and 10. Not by much. I also like Moffat as a show runner more, so I may be biased there.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
i'm not sure i like the sudden shift in tone from the end of last season. i enjoyed episode 1 for all its cleverness, but episode 2 couldn't hold my attention. plus, all this talk of the impending loss of pond is sad-making.
however, i've loved every single new doctor, whereas in the older series their likability was spotty. it's actually made me watch live tv!

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
I really like Smith as the Doctor. I think his acting is really really fitting for the role - smart but clueless all at the same time. It's a great casting choice, like Cumberbatch as the lead in Moffat's other show, Sherlock. They really get into their characters and perform the hell out of them, not shying away from being serious or overly energetic when it's needed.
As for the Pond's leaving... I guess it's time for it, but I'm not ready. They play off the doctor so well. It's exciting to see where this takes the show though, with Smith being said to be the doctor until at least 2014.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
Just catching up now with Dinos on a Spaceship? Mitchell and Webb, you geniuses!! Please come back with more Peep Show soon. Seriously, if they did an episode now with Chris O'Dowd and Richard Ayode I think I would just go giddy like a little gurl. I agree this was a bit of a lesser 'cerebral' episode, if such can be said for Doctor Who, but the after the robots started up, everything else was just gravy for me. I agree the foreshadowing of the imminent loss of Ponds is getting a bit much (and sad of course). Even though we all know the new companion is coming, I'd rather it be a sudden dramatic end in one episode type situation, similar to the past. I hope this is not the over-arcing theme of the entire season.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
from what i've heard, amy and rory are gone before the christmas special... so them leaving is only the first half of this season's story arc, much like river's true identity way the halfway point of last season.

I really enjoyed David Walliams guest turn a couple of years ago: Here's a little interview snippet of him with Smith and Gillan. Does anyone here besides me miss Doctor Who Confidential like crazy?

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
So it has been a week since the last episode and no comments? I won't give away any spoilers, just in case there are still a few stragglers, but what I will say is I am very dissapointed that the series is over for the [part]season after only 5 episodes. First we were subjected to an extended wait for rebroadcasting and now this? Writers/producers these days seem to be doing this more and more just because they can get away with it. I am generally not happy with the workload of a season that seems to pass for an acceptable norm.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
So it's too late to care about stragglers "SPOILER" there now we can talk.
I was honestly hoping for a 2 parter with the Angels in NY and the content of it being the Ponds last episode. The Statue of Libery made no sense. In NYC, even at that time, you're telling me NO ONE was up or around to keep their eyes fixed on that thing? How could it move? Surely a hobo was watching somewhere. Other than that blatant problem I loved the episode, but I love the Angels so whatever.
Half seasons suck. I'm tired of that shit too. Why even bother?

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
Finally, I agree. Thanks for getting the ball rolling. A two-parter would have been great. The Statue of Liberty was just one of the major plot holes in this episode. I know Moffat had planned to get rid of the Ponds for some time, but for all that prep work, it just felt so....forced. And if they did sacrifice themselves in order to save Rory, how come everything didn't reset then? Wasn't that the whole point? The entire 'you'll be running forever' thing was a cop out. As was the NY time nexus which can now conveniently never be returned to.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
i've learned to just enjoy the doctor for what it is, and no so much worry about plot holes. (why take the fun out of it, eh?) if you want to get all technical, why couldn't the tardis just land in, say... new jersey... in 1938, let amy and rory take the ferry, and poof, problem solved? but that would just frustrate me if i thought that way, so i just go with it... =p i do agree that a two-part episode would have been more appropriate, considering the there ARE technically two companions, but what do i know? =) just don't want to have to wait for another two months for a new episode...

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
I was kinda hoping for a darker ending to those two, like a brutal death or going insane or being transported back to pre-life earth or split apart in different times or turned into cybermen or erased from history. I feel like they are leaving an opening so they can bring them back for a Christmas special or something. Lame. The new companion better be good.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
^^^ For what it's worth, I read that Gillan specifically requested a storyline where it would be impossible for her character to come back. She wanted it final and, according to Moffat, it's final!
What I would like to see someday is a visit with alternate universe Rose and the Doctor. They set the plot up so that they could never return to "our" universe, and that the Doctor there would age normally. Be cool to see a check in episode when Piper and Tenant are both over 50.

 Re: For Doctor Who fans
I can let a lot go. My OCD may flare up but I can tell it to shut up. But when I'm dealing with a character with very simple rules, like the Angels, who I REALLY love and they kinda jerk around that? Meh, I get upset. I think Dr. writers I really good about covering most plot holes, even if it's with a cheap patch up "oh...um....science says no!" I'll buy it. But whatever.
I thought the same thing about 1938 too. Or "Ok...why not go to 1940 Atlantic City, hang out and have them meet you?" I never REALLY got how it's final. And they just say "Oh that Angel is a stragler" or some crap. What? How? 5 seconds of something cheap like "Oh it was in the graveyard and so was the TARDIS when this happened so uh it was safe somehow." Cheap answers but acceptable ones.
SPOILER
It felt rushed at the end. No biggie though, I still got to see the Angels in action. And I still love the show, let's get things going already with Dalek girl! She's the new companion right?
