 Kaws Astro Boy
The product of famed Japanese cartoonist Osamu Tezuka, the resulting interpretation finds the character sheepishly covering his iconic face. The AstroBoy Companion will be available at select retailers on October 27 for ¥18,090 JPY (approximately $231 USD).

Oh man. I've been thinking about selling 2 of my 400% Dissected Companion Bearbricks - Funding this would be a really great reason to sell them!

 Re: Kaws Astro Boy
this actually is very nice, and i think the porportions are much better then his original resin. Many people fall to much into the hype of their only being 13 astroboys... and because of that they all want it. I personally am not too fond of his original piece. I personally believe that it would be safe to say that if the original resin was in mass numbers of lets say 1000. that plenty would be in the secondary market just like the 5yl and dissecteds are.

 Re: Kaws Astro Boy
So far I'm not digging this. Actually, I think I dislike most/all of his licensed characters. The Pinocchio actually looked really nice, but I wouldn't want one. A different colorway of this might make me like it more - I just really dislike flesh-colored vinyl. But the face-palm sculpt isn't doing much for me (thought the same about the Pinocchio sculpt too).

it looks as if his arms are articulated to some extent. that would be cool if it were the case

Average Kaws toy, terrible Astroboy toy. But, i guess it's not really meant for an Astroboy fan anyway.

It reminds me of Pinocchio without some of the features.

 Re: Kaws Astro Boy
I really like this. May be my first KAWS purchase in quite a long time.
If the arms are articulated at both the elbow and wrist than it may pose similar to the original version when extended.

 Re: Kaws Astro Boy
Definitely like the first one way more. And originality/creativity never factored into why I like (some of) KAWS' work. Sometimes derivative work is more enjoyable, or just flat out better, than original/creative work. Pleasing aesthetics and execution are what initially drew me to KAWS.

 Re: Kaws Astro Boy
Hey, I'm with ya. If it's not a Companion or a Chum I probably don't like it (with the exception of a few Be@rbricks). Snoopy, Tweety, Star Wars - all sucked. I loved his Kimpson's paintings, but can't stand his Sponge Bob or Kurfs paintings.

 Re: Kaws Astro Boy
I like all of his paintings but I'm a huge fan of cel shading. the kurfs is just an extension of what he did w the kimpsons. the chum is pretty much just putting x eyes & cross bones on bibendum. His work is still on par w his early stuff except that now he has started to deconstruct it in his paintings. I just think a lot of people on here don't like kaws anymore bc it is anti-cool to.

kroker wrote: the chum is pretty much just putting x eyes & cross bones on bibendum. Yup. But he did it without a license from Michelin. And they were cheap (comparatively). And they just look damn nice - very sculptural for blow-molded plastic. I don't think it has anything to do with when something was made. I really like Resting Place. It's a great pose of one of his "original" characters, and is well manufactured. And "way back" I hated the Blitz, Cat Banks, etc.

 Re: Kaws Astro Boy
IMO best choice of character in a while. I wasn't too fond of Tweety and Pinocchio.
Will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled.

Astro Boy makes sense now. His pose is in response to this:
