A serious, huge fuck off to my mother-in-law. I realize she's not used to having a bunch of people in her house, but it's not ok to:

-Joke around with my 1- and 3-year-olds saying they should drink detergent and die.

-Tell them repeatedly that monsters would come eat them (and NOT jokingly).

-Actually leave my three-year-old in the house by himself for hours (until my wife got back and found him there in tears).

-Call me stupid all the time for doing things like leaving money in my jeans pockets - which she decided to wash after coming in our room and finding them there.

-Absolutely refuse to have any sort of conversation with my mother. Never actually making eye contact with her for a week. Calling her a liar for saying she couldn't speak English - which she can't. Not that my mother-in-law can either.

-Refusing to give us a suitcase which her husband had promised. I don't mind buying it, whatever, but don't change your mind the afternoon before our flight.

-Basically looking at every gesture we made to find something to complain about. And going out of her way to find things to I FART A LOT about, like taking a one-hour-walk in the rain while she had pneumonia to get oranges for the kids when I told her they didn't ask for any and that I'd go if they did.

Overall, I wasn't expecting this trip to Japan to be much fun, but it's been worse than I thought. And to think we cam"e to show her a grand-daughter she'd never met because she doesn't want to leave the country or to bother to use Skype after we set it up for her and got all the gear.

Wow Oli, that is some serious messed up stuff right there. Family dynamics (especially cross-cultural ones) can be awkward at the best of times, but still, that is some harsh behaviour. I hope you had some small joy on the trip, and your children got to enjoy it.

I would definitely rather have stayed home, but the kids did seem to enjoy it - my son spent the month at a kindergarten with other kids he could understand and my daughter is happy doing... anything, really.

We're leaving in a few hours, and my wife's mom has spent the whole morning complaining and wishing we'd leave sooner (which she has expressed several times in the last few weeks). You're not going to see me or your grandkids again got a f-ing long time lady, your wish will be fulfilled.

I'm not sure if this is a fuck me, fuck the venue, fuck the promoter, or fuck the band.

I and my wife were pretty excited last Thursday: we were going to our first gig in ages! The poster said the show began at 8pm. There were no opening acts announced, so I thought it may actually start at 9pm or so. A few days later, I noticed a band had been added, so I thought 9:30/45 - still feasible. On the concert day we get a sitter, wait until the kids fall asleep, and get out. We arrive at the venue at 9pm, there's no one and we're told there will be two opening acts and the band itself is planned for 11:15. In other words, we'd have to pay the sitter for five hours, and have a damn short night of sleep, working the next day. And that's IF there were no further delays. So we went home disappointed (and gave $20 to the sitter).

I used to go to shows all the time, but I don't remember them being quite so late. But I might just not have cared when I was a student. Maybe I'm just old.
