Yeah I figured it was based on a giant T-Rex but since Gorilla Ju and Mecha Gorilla have SPECIFIC points of reference ,not just "king kong" or "mecha kong" but very specific versions of each of those, that maybe there was some particular bootleg T-Rex or an illustration that DIRECTLY influenced it.

^ Maybe there is but no has discovered it yet. But having the 2 references mentioned above is good enough to put all his toys together. They may not be exact but pretty close.

Oh yeah, just OCD'ing. I mean the whole line is clearly based on King Kong + it's Japanese coutnerparts. I was just trying to see if we had any other info.

I forgot about Gaulings versions (did I spell his name right, too lazy to look it up!) Too bad he's not willing to put some of his stuff into production, I liked a lot of it.

It really is a shame. I was interested in his smog monster / BEMON, sculpt. He said I would need IKBs permission to make it. I even offered to just buy it outright so he wouldn't be attached , so he wouldn't feel guilty. He still wouldn't do it. You gotta respect his ethics.

Would it be possible to get permission Rich? There's four different sculpts of the figure out there and the Gaulung version is one of the best. Way better then the Target Earth big one(I like the mini).

I'm already on it. But don't get your hopes up. Usually stuff like this gets pricey . If it does get an ok I will definitely be making it.

I agree his is one of the best, and dare I say better than SVHC ?

So you wanna bootleg a bootleg of a bootleg?

Why not just make a dead horse sculpt instead. Hahaha...

My interest is piqued. Anyone have a photo of that?

You can't bootleg a toy that never existed. There never was a smog monster toy, just an illustration on a header. But that is intellectual property owned by IKB.

The Kong I'm not even going to try. There is just no way to get permission without finding an original toy. The odds are there never was one and the bootleg toy was always a kong bootleg. The movie studio would have no clue and couldn't give permission as they wouldn't care unless I called it King Kong. Gaulung is very strict and this toy falls into a void. He could make any of these if he chose because there is no one to enforce a copy right that doesn't exist.

That's a hard call for me...I think it might be more accurate to the original illustration. Maybe it's just the arms that do it.

Yeah I guess its just another take. The SVHC will always remain one of my favorite toys of all time. It played a huge part into own personal history, sculpt and paint wise.

I like the more serious face of Gaulung's version. I love the articulated arms and humanoid body.

At the end of the day they would make a great set, that's for sure. Far better than the Target Earth.

Why not? That's what more than half of the "new" stuff is coming from these companies whether any of us realize it or not. I mean there's already bootlegs, and bootlegs of bootlegs, and in some cases various bootlegs of the original bootleg.

If something on this board ISN'T a bootleg or bootlegged bootleg or something of the sort it's at least partially bootlegged or "paying tribute" so as far as I'm concerned we're way past all that.

I really love the conceptual art for the adult smog monster. Love the idea of a toy like this with legs, though I think the Neoteny version is quite there yet for me; something about the narrowness of the arms and body. Larger hands and curves of the legs and waist would go a long way [and it looks like he is wearing the puffy shirt  ].

Sooo did you not just produce bootleg Galtan pendants? A character who like the Kougai, Was a toy based on a painting. Which is a direct bootleg of a Baltan? So unless you are yourself producing a dead horse necklace your point is moot.

Well I'm totally out of the loop...does the orange alien humanoid come with the mecha or gorilla-ju?
Love the design of him...kinda reminds me of Takara Satan King.

that one comes with the MG2, which is HS's newest sculpt. it's the biggest dude on the flyer.

edit. btw, nice flyer! i'm assuming that's part of the latest MG2 release? looks pristine, did it come packaged that way?

It comes in the bag with the MG2, mine was a little crumpled, a larger red and black sticker was also included in the box.

If you consider making 3 metal pendants (1 for me, 1 for a friend, & 1 for a boardie) producing, than yes I did produce a bootleg pendant :P

And it was based off a trading card that was produced in the 70s. He is a combination of Antlar & Baltan; with a skull head.

Dead Horse necklaces will be available on the site in the spring.

Maybe there's info on the original sculpt in this article? From Gaulung's Flickr.

That looks like a really sweet article, whether there is more info on the original Kong bootleg or not. I wonder what magazine it is from.
