Secret Base harder to find on YJA
Anyone notice that most of the rare or hard to find Secret Base figures are mo longer for sale on YJA. In fact their seems to be a lot less for sale period.

Yes, most of it is the new stuff, or stuff that's less rare. Or it's just way overpriced, like the GID Brain that's been up for a while. But then, that's what Brain said after his last trip, isn't it? The rarer, older, more desirable SB is jsut not around any more. I've still got a couple of figs in that category that I really would like to have, but I'm fairly well set for the older SB stuff for the most part, thank God.
There's definitely more of other stuff on there now, though; more Real Head, more non-Vinyl Fight Gargamel.

Funny I was just looking at Yahoo Japan today and yeah it seems like Brian's prediction is coming true. Very little old SB to be had. I unfortunately am still looking for a couple of pieces like the 1/6 medicom and an Astro 1 or 3 Skull Wing. The later two being mostly a pipe dream.

ah I really think that the slow down of the more desirable older SB is mainly because of the slow down in the market. I think most people have just spent to much money or they have what they want mainly so they stopped buying everything they could. There has to be a lot of SB that is still in Japan that will show up, also as people sell off their collections for new companies the more desirable ones will be up. that is totally my opinion and it is mainly based on how much of the vintage Kaiju that I see on YJA, you can mainly find what you want eventually!!!!!

I have been insane collecting one thing or another forever. What always happens is I focus on one thing and when I'm knee deep in it, get bored and trade or sell most or all of it off.
Then the next thing catches my eye and the process repeats itself.
I'm a firm believer that the thrill of the hunt and the excitement of getting what your looking for is more important to a collector than having all the "trophies" on shelves.
The one exception for me is the Glow in the Dark. I'm not narrowed down to one specific company or style.
I was a HUGE Funko collector (had over 200 Funko items), and still have quite a few of the wobblers, but the collecting cycle caught up with me on that collection too.
I'm sure sooner or later, Secret Base collections will start to get seperated from the collectors who will already be on the hunt for something else!

i've noticd the same thing on YJA. I have also seen some unreasonable prices for certain items...recently saw a rainyday skullbee for 35000 yen
and it was loose, WTF. a few pages later and i find a bagged one for 5K yen. Crazyness.

I think for people new to collecting SB its going to be a case of having to be very patient when looking for older SB stuff, that and buy the new stuff as soon as it comes out too.

I really don't hang on Yja but I have been noticing a fair amount of "different" stuff popping up on E(vil)-Bay lately. Majin Benders, RealXHead, etc..... tell me someone in Japan isn't reading this board! There also seems to be a fair amount of SB on there albeit a lot of newer stuff but the occasional harder older figure pops up. Couple of Secreters awhile back. a Plant Brain and a Screwbiter were all up for a "Buy it Now" and gone in a mater of a hour or so.......
I have also seen a slow down in stuff showing up on Manadarake's site also.

On second thought, are there a couple of people who want to spilt this?
I'd like the Astro Blue or red one but we can certainly do something where the fan club version costs less than the others...something to even out the desirabilty vs cost.
I should mention I don't have a celga account
Maybe now is the time to start...

Over a hundred and ten dollars each - that's pretty high for the Pusfan and Blue GID. And the Red Skullwing will show up again for less than that I'm sure. The only one that might be worth it for $110+ is the all GID, those just haven't been showing up much. That was one of the last few that Frank needed - so you know it took some tracking down.

Is it high? I honestly didn't know what the going rate is. I just haven't seen any for while so I just assumed the worst. But you know what they say about asssumptions...

I almost made this exact same post the other day.
I rarely ever see older skull brains, like the ones I have posted I'm looking for, obviously. the unfortunate part is that now I have a steady job and a few months ago I didn't.
however, I agree with what some of the others said about things being cyclical. I collect kubricks/bearbricks too and a year or so ago things with those were just crazy. they were everywhere and the prices on ebay were sky high. now there is maybe a few pages at most when you search. peoples' tastes change. I'm one of the fools who just tries to spread himself too thin between tons of different things.

Well, I suppose it's only too much if it's more than you want or are able to pay. Otherwise, go nuts. Mostly I'm just recalling that the most I ever saw a Pusfan sell for was $75 from SOS, and the most I ever saw a red one go for on YJA was like 8000 yen.
But again - it eds up being about how much you want those partiular ones and how long you're willing to wait before seeing them again. How many of us have stories about waiting on something and then never being to afford or even find it again? More than a few, I think.

man I got lucky as hell getting my white GID Skullwing!!!!! some guy was selling the Blue GID version on ebay a long time ago and I bid but didn't win it so he emailed me later and was like hey I got this white GID Skullwing I will sell you for $90.00!!!!!!! that was like 2 weeks ago or something!!!! I was so fucking excited to get it.
Oh and my Red Skullwing I got off of YJA for 4500yen right in the middle of the big SB boom!!!!! I couldn't believe it ended so low!!!!! I had like 15000yen as my max bid!!!!!!

Good story, VGA. Got all of my skullwings (except the red one, got him individually) in one big lot of about 12-15 figs that showed up on YJA in late summer. There was also the red Skull Barbarian in there as well. That was an awesome auction - and just before the boom, so it was a pretty decent price.
