This...I really want this. Not just for the fact that it's been in just about every bizzarre "Mysteries of the Unexplained" book for the last 40 years because it is supposed to be a sculpture of an "astronaught" but because it's just plain cool.

Oh! so thats what that pokemon "Claydoll" was ment to be based on... Its a very nice sculpt, reminds me of patina'd brass

Once you know what the Jomon Dogu look like, you begin to see the design influences everywhere in Japan. There is a really cool gashapon set of the antique clay figures (Dogu, Haniwa) that came out recently.

I still have the original brown Dogu from Marmit. Good display piece if you're in an office setting, since it's not too off-the-wall.

Like I said...It's also in every old Von Daniken-esque book ever written as a reference to "ancient travellers". It's def in "Mysteries of the Unexplained" and "Out of This World". I remember even as a kid being fascinated by that original museum DOGU in those books. It's funny but I always thought it was brown. It's obviously grey in that pic Bryce has put up....it's f*ing creepy.
I'm actively going to seek one when I'm in Japan....if I get there.

Randy (CrabRangoon) recently set up a host of toys from his collection for a gallery show here in Austin. I need to go back with a better camera, but I did take a snap of this beautiful Marmit Gorosaurus. The textrure is flattened out in the shot, but it has this awesome pebbly texture, like styrofoam when it gets broken and you see all the little styro-balls. The colors on this guy are also just amazing.

Oh wow. That is pretty gnarly! Love the sculpt and texture!

Love that shade of blue, too...very reminiscent of the Bullmark.

I would have never made the connection on that one.

The zollmen mini is way better in my opinion..The head on this doesn't even look close.

The sculptor definitely left off all the radiation burns. Kinda misses the point of the monster.

They probly did that hoping to get an OK from Tsuburaya.
