Honestly the whole punk thing and how it connects to japanese toys (besides a bunch of modern kaiju makers in japan being into it) is still a mystery to me. I get that a lot of people here are into that american hardcore thing but I honestly don't see how that applies to collecting. I don't care what toypunks tells you, japanese toys are not punk to me. To me it's more of a traditional thing from the toho/live action shows circa 60's & 70's.

I've never taken it to mean the toys themselves were punk but that the scene attracted a lot of punks. I remember remarking once how amazed I was at the collective general knowledge here and how much it mirrors my own taste. So many people here have shared influences including some quite obscure ones. Of course in reality we are different and diverse in our own ways but there is a lot more common ground than I am used to finding on the internet.

Guess I'm a minority then, the closest I ever got to punk was Wire, The Clash, and Buzzcocks..... back in the day when some of my teenage friends listened to Minor Threat I was listening to Joy Division. I'm old and set in my ways still at 44.

Trust me, it used to be worse. Can't say as I've seen many insults of customs lately but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. 8)

Bingo.

Also Bingo.

That talk started years ago during a discussion when a bunch of us realized that we had more in common than the toy collecting hobby. There's a lot more that could be said about it, but that wouldn't be very punk. :D

It makes me very sad and says a lot about the collectors that are now around that Bounty Hunter hasn't been brought up at all in this "discussion."

Also, customs still suck. They just have mostly been relegated to the customs section so most of us that hate them avoid it. That or those who were always waving them around and hyping theirs got enough hangers ons and kiss asses to move up and on to better things and be just as or more annoying. But that is just my opinion.
:)

I liked the bounty hunter toys and then I went to their store and it was like a clothing store for people with very different tastes than mine and no toys in sight. I never connected the dots very well.

If it wasn't for bounty hunter at least half of the toys everyone is buying on here these days wouldn't exist. Also I was referencing the punk "thing" and bounty hunter. 50% toy 50% punk, all other toys suck.

Also I'm not glenn pogue, I never sold off my collections multiple times after pretending to be a rock star collector and ripping off tons of people in the process. And besides his tough guy persona was just that, as he waited for kozik customs and partied with huck gee. :)

Isn't buying a BxH tshirt in Japan the same for the Japanese as Americans buying American shirts in the US? Just bc the dollar is weaker than the yen the clothing seems expensive to us in the states but to the Japanese it's just like buying a $20 or $30 tshirt.

When I was last in Japan (which has been a long time) the dollar was much stronger to the yen, and bounty hunter still wanted what was about 175 dollars for an engineer like cap with a small bxh tag on it and about 150 for an embroidered baseball cap.

So you're saying that, not only does BxH make stupid toys but they're also responsible for at least half of the stupid toys being made today? Fucking BxH...

(Oh the blasphemy! I don't care - I'm not going to pretend to have appreciation for BxH just because of who they are, when I have zero appreciation for what they make.)
