anyone got any good tricks for smaller spaces? We are maxed out on floor shelving & need another detolf, unfortunately 1000 sq. feet doesn't allow for much expansion. Show me the tricks you've used to max out your tiny spaces!

If you have deep bookcases, books can be pushed back and figures can stand on the shelves in front of books...

What about those weird vacum bags? You can put all your toys in them and suck out all the wasted space.

If you collect IceBots (shudder), you can throw them in the freezer.
Same with the IceBats...

I use a lot of floating shelves. Even if you don't have a lot of wall space, you can squeeze small shelves in here or there and put a few toys up on them. That helps relieve the pressure in overstuffed cases.

I love the display el word. Very inspiring. Where did you get the little L shaped shelves? I seem to remember seeing some at West Elm, but I think they were pretty pricey. Where did you get those?

The L shaped shelves came from Target.

I actually just came back from Ikea. They have some very simple, solid wood wall shelves about 32" long & 3" deep that are milled & finished and only cost about $8 each. If you want to line them up in the same plane, they have a little steel dowel that fits into each end for alignment. They are predrilled, so all you have to do is screw them into the wall w/ drywall screws.

I will probably hate them after the next earthquake, when everthing takes a dive.

we actually bought one of these and it fell out of our wall becasue we have such shitty walls. Anchors are on the shopping list & we will try again.

I suffer from the same problem in my office at home so for my smaller figs I built this. Works well and in this case I could display 48 figures + stuff on top.

Yep. Most of mine come from Target.com (better selection than what's in the store, plus not as beat-up). Some came from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I haven't used any wall anchors for mine. Just regular screws, and none have fallen down yet.

Missy, you talk about 1000 sq ft likes you have no space! I'd kill for a 1000! My house is 850 sq ft - its no wonder I have a garage and a storage unit filled up!

I want to eventually find one giant wall sized display case, but that would probably be pretty pricey, so for now I'm sticking to the detolfs.

I've actually just finished clearing and re-painting my dining room today, I got rid of the table and I'm moving my toy cases in there where I will have room for at least one more, 4 should be enough for a while.

My apartment is like 750sq feet and my girlfriend is pretty militant about clutter so it's tough, it took me a little while to overthrow the dining room, but victory is mine!

That is one hell of a display. I love the way you group your displays.

but i have 3 br (1 br + 1 office + 1 giant junk room).

i was just at ikea looking for something to display my stuff in those floating shelves look cool, but i think i want something with doors to keep the dust to a minimum.

I'd love 1000 sq ft. My apt is only 710 or so. I have a built into the wall case for minis and the rest are just around on various tables/tv etc. I'm running out of space though, so I'm going to switch to floating shelves soon.

LOL! That's the spirit! You can always eat on the floor, but never leave your toys there!

missy, i too have crap piled on every horizontal space available. its not even remotely organized. i don't have any shelves that sit on the floor, and yeah, anchors are a necessity for floaters!!

i love the chaos but it can be a bit maddening once in awhile. Its fun to let go though. i routinely "find" toys i haven't seen in a long time. hahaha

you can get those shelves (like the "L" style) at any Loews too. I've got some great shelves from target also.

what you guys are forgetting is that it is TWO toy collections for 1000 sq feet (and i probably even over-estimated that number)---if it was just me, 750 would be ok.
