 Re: Deadbeet
I personally enjoy the figure. It's chock full of rooty details and is well designed. I don't really get the whole "Grimace" thing, it was cute, but this toy isn't really flexible as a platform toy in my opinion. He's just a really cool root veggie thing. Beside,s if Scott doesn't post here with news of releases then I'd miss them

There's no real detail to the thing, no attempt at a creative paint application, no back story or anything else related to it. It just "is" and that aint good enough! You guys and ladies are not trying! This board has become far too lenient and passive. I read posts from people pleading for us to be objective (sorry Frank ). Yet there's no need to be objective over this stuff. A turd is a turd. Why waste time discussing it. But... I'm an artist (who isn't)! It was made in Japan (who cares)! I want you all to love me (we don't)! Go back Kozik Island and die No.

This toy has received lots of praise on here, has sold out every run, Scott is doing exclusives with established jvinyl/kaiju/sofubi stores & companies, has had 2 sweet paint apps by nebulon AND backstories written by skinner: i think that vouches for this toy. If you have a problem with this thread talk to a mod.
Keep doin what your doin Scott!

This toy is so awesome. How a creepy, come-to-life root vegetable is any different (or less legit) than a city or tank or sewer or street or pile of puke or pile of tentacles or pile of scales or pile of cars or skeleton boxer or dude with horns or one-eyed anything is absolutely beyond me.

I don't own any of these, and I am usually on the other side thinking get this stuff out of here. I don't understand why this doesn't belong. Scott is a great guy. He makes lots of toys, most of which stay off SB and rightfully so. I believe he knows and respects the community here and does not overstep in any way. Here's deadbeet's cousin:

I know this toy isn't for everyone and I respect the opinions of those who feel inclined to express them on this forum. However, when someone compares Deadbeet to a platform toy from KR and says it lacks detail all I can do is roll my eyes and laugh. -S

 Re: Deadbeet
I don't think there's anything anyone can say to change the minds of people who just want to hate, but how can you say this figure isn't detailed?
I've loved Neb5's paint jobs so far and would love to see more painted Deadbeets to show off the sculpt. The one thing I've really been impressed by is the variety and uniquness of the shades of vinyl.

 Re: Deadbeet
All Im going to say is that this monster looks like something that came out of a buffmonster painting and not a Godzilla movie. It has detail, and it is well painted, it just doesnt seem to fit with the other toys around here.
Look at your shelves and think about where you would put it, that can give a decent ballpark of what boards can embrace it.
Because its bagged, japanese and made out of vinyl, it doesnt necessarily belongs here, and that is true of the opposite.
Good luck with it, I can see it has done amazingly well and to be honest, at this point if people want to buy it, they will look for it. No need to plaster the internet with it.
I like the spray on that purple one, it sure looks good.

 Re: Deadbeet
Doesn't belong here? Sucks? Has no detail? Sounds like a deaf dumb and blind kid wrote those comments. Maybe you play pinball? Anyway, this toy is awesome. It most certainly does not suck. I can't wait to paint some. The photo shared by animator should ease any worries about things 'fitting' here. Does Yamomark not fit on SB? Has no detail.... well, you're a (edited for hurt feelings and PC conformity) - person incapable of seeing the work that was put into this sculpt. Open your eyes. Just sayin. animator wrote: Here's deadbeet's cousin:

 Re: Deadbeet
^^^^^^^^^^ I really appreciate these comments by gattio, I dont agree with them all but its an opinion and a well put one with considered points. We could argue the statement that it doesnt belong here, We do after all have a decent sized Lego thread. But why argue when it takes just a bit more effort to express yourself without the drama? I'm not telling anyone what to like or not, or how to express yourself or not. If your inner drama queen needs to speak, shout it out! Its just obvious that the haters are more attempting to keep their post count up, and thats easiest done by saying boooooooo to nearly everything, than they are really considering what they are saying.

Great pic, plastichunter. The unpainted stuff is terrific! Shit, I'd take that shelf anyday.

 Re: Deadbeet
Well, that sure looks nice, Plastichunter. Point to you. It helps to have so many cool blanks too. And my point of view was just in the sense that a lot of stuff gets shunned and other is accepted based on very blurred lines. Rather than bash it (whats the point?), I just dont really input much on those threads with things that dont call out to me. Simple as that. It would certainly look odd on my shelves though.

 Re: Deadbeet
I don't have a problem with the Deadbeet falling under the Skulldrain remit (it's probably cooler than a lot of other crap that happens to tick all the right boxes). It's the forced rarity (most are unpainted, why the need to limit 'em to a handful) and the fact it seems that anyone can throw some paint on 'em and call 'em a 'micro run' that's gotten old!
I'd be more interested in what the original artists vision was than some random dude with an airbrush!

 Re: Deadbeet
^^^^^^ Your shelf is spectacular Connell! That beet fits in perfectly! I also edited my previous post to include the backstory, but for those of you that won't notice the edit or for those of you who won't look up the backstory, here it is: Of the convulsive primordial instinct the earth has held secret from man; None is more inclined to writhe with specific ancient hatred of the oblivious pink mammals than organic matter that has sprung eagerly from wet black soil. The crawling beings, the roots, the vegetation and tall hoary beasts that walk unsuspected are all but weapons and silent planning assassins of the human element that so ignorantly sits waiting. Waiting for the unnatural evolutionary turns that were engineered to react to human kind and all its selfish design… natural evolution in the form of some unsuspecting twisted thing that rises menacingly from below the ground to take back what once was never meant to be lost. To take back the very earth itself. Behold, a black root. -Skinner

Given the right version (as previously stated, one with painted leaves, bandage, etc.), I'd certainly considering adding it to my collection. The Grimace version was almost there.
I also fucking love beets. Yes, I'm not a fan...but how is this any different then say the Rose Vampire?
