 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
I'm not that keen on the full size customs (or any customs for that matter) but this updated pic has to be welcome in this thread? Ok not official and customs BUT they are mini replicas of the real thing right? Anyway this is for those not on IG who don't go near the custom section Either it's a piece of piss to find Zollmen in Japan or maybe he has a link with Zollmen? With all the Barons (plus previous Demekings/Peporas/Maza) customs - maybe he gets extras to paint. Not to mention his MIB Fancy / Space Toy and Maza collection!

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
I think the standard size Mad Barons are pretty good. While I know a lot of people favor the retro-style Super Robot paint schemes of the normal releases, it is refreshing to see a new take on the toy. Sometimes I get a little tired of tribute color schemes. I wonder if the comments would differ if this was a run of one-offs by someone at Zollmen or another 'artist' in Japan.
But it does seem like a waste to buy so many expensive/rare figures just to customize.

So "Spamper" stating that, "unpainted Punk Drunkers release of the last year so no rare version was touched." was only regarding minis? Oh man. Well, he can do what he wants with what he buys but It WOULD be disappointing if he used regular releases for those full-size customs.
I better look up these "Punk Drunkers."

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
Just so everyones clear...The Punk Drunkers full size MB was painted...The unpainted ones were the same mini's offered on OMO. Ralph here's pictures of the rest of the collaborations they have done with Zollmen... (Possibly my favorite Galtan) Spamper wrote: Find some pics on another website (in this case instagram) put it on the board without asking the permission to the owner so everyone can write everything about it and criticize it. I don't think it's fair. Huh?..If you don't want people using you pics on the web don't post pics on the web.

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
Now that is a really nice lot. All the original colors I think. I gave great thought last night on how he'd do a GID mini like the original since it's GID with a clear helmet. Are these mini's molded in two pieces? Looks like he swapped a clear head onto a GID body. Anyhow I like where this discussion is going. You can't get me to change my mind on the standards but I like that people are saying well I like them because this is a Jeeg tribute etc etc. I only saw the Jeeg tribute maybe, did not recognize the rest, but that's what I like here: You can learn something. I'm just not a fan of the whole "+1 that's great" thing.

Spamper is a decent guy. He's a fellow local who's just not used to the ways of the board. And he's sticking up for another local who isn't here to defend his work. That's all.

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
It's a painted clear Chris, not actually GID just painted to look like it. They are in two pieces, joined at the waist. Would be a bit tricky to cut the heads off and swap...

Well at this point considering the custom conversation is continuing I might as well join in... and I must admit I really like that mini pseudo-GID MB, would love to have one to add to my standard.

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
The reason pics first got posted was because someone thought the mashup he made was a release. Same thing happened with the Space Guy he painted a while ago. I thought people were posting the pics to clarify that these are just customs. As usual it just snowballed into something.

I feel bad for starting this as in asking about that draki release, honestly I thought it was amazing and certainly worthy of a release. I didn't mean for this to escalate. And put it this way if he buys 13 mad barons and customs them which were really superb for himself then who cares? its not like they are 1/1. Anyway blah blah and all that bollocks

This is 1 toy that I'd love to see a Vader tribute on. Excuse my lateness if this has been discussed or mentioned before.

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
Great photos! I can see why, that yellow version is amazing. My favorite is the first blue release. I garnered fascinating information, a few of you might know some of this. Zollmen crosses over into deep historical significance with this release. The Draki is actually an Oni Yokai, the mountain-dwelling ogre who in classic Japanese lore is depicted with either red, blue, brown or black skin, horns, wide mouth with fangs and is practically naked wearing only a tiger skin. This link has a very interesting insight... http://ojisanjake.blogspot.com/2008/06/ ... Ra19qVFmo-"The most common translation of oni is "demon", but I am less and less satisfied with that due to the association of the word demon in english with pure evil. I think a better translation of oni would be ogre. Oni can do bad things, but they can help people too. Oni are almost always depicted as being very hairy, and one theory of their origin is that they were the original inhabitants of Japan. As the rice-growing Yayoi people started moving in to Japan around 2,300 years ago from the Asian mainland, the indigenous people were pushed up into the mountains where the rice-growing invaders did not initially go. From the mountains the "oni" would probably have raided villages for food or women." ------- It appears that the lore is a crossover between historical incidents and the realm of nature spirits. In an old file I found it says "Oni are mostly depicted as evil, but can occasionally be the embodiment of an ambivalent natural force" They have a potentially hidden good side, this is suggested by virtue of the prayer beads and the benevolent Buddhist mantra 'Namu Amida Butsu' imprinted on the inside of his wrist, if you have one take a look, I think all versions have this.

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
really didnt want to bring this up publically, since I like zollmen alot, but i think i need to. has anyone received any defective mini MBs?? I got a clear with some weird bubbles in the leg, not really a big deal, toys get bubbles.. but I also got a clear with gold glitter one that has surface bubbles that have deformed the sculpt. there is a chunk missing in the armpit and more than half of the one hand is missing... really disappointing that it would ever have even made it to the bag. I've contacted zollmen about it but havent heard back and dont really expect to. I'm debating on fixing the hand with sculpy and painting the thing..

 Re: Zollmen Database- updated 10/21/12
^ The clear 1 I had also had bubbles in it, guessing that is pretty common. The missing/deformed hand 1 is really weird though. Not sure how they'd let that 1 slip through.

I mean, the fuckin hand is missing! I actually thought it broke off somehow but there was no piece in the bag and then I thought that is probably impossible. it's definitely large surface bubbles.
