Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Dude Merle has been awesome for day 1. He's one of the few 1 dimensional characters. I give that credit to the actor, he's so good. But though he comes off that way at the start there's more. Shane was like that too. There was more to these guys. They weren't just assholes or racists or whatever. They were people and that showed at times.
Rick, psht, whatever, kill that dude off whenever I wouldn't care. I'd watch if it was just Carl running around being a cool kid.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
^^^^I agree with you 100% here Jeff. Shane and Merle were some of the best characters on the show because the actors portraying them (Bernthal & Rooker) conveyed both sides (good & bad) in their acting so well. WD needs more conflicted characters and not just crazy ones (Rick), or dumb ones (Andrea), and an actor or actress that can pull the role off.
Rooker said in a interview the best scene he did on the show was the one with Daryl in the generator room. You can see him getting choked up when Daryl says he just wants his brother back.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
You know, a few weeks ago I re-watched the S2 episode '18 miles out'. When I first watched season 1 & 2 I couldn't stand Shane and didn't get his appeal. After watching that episode again I realize that with Lori out of the picture he could have been an excellent addition to the group, hell, even be a better leader than Rick now. The problem with Shane is he was hardened by the zombie outbreak much sooner than everyone else. Rick would have never left the hitchhiker in 'Clear' if it were season 2 or prior, can't say the same for Shane. Anyways I just found it interesting that if he was plucked from s1 and placed in s3, Shane & Rick may have gotten along much better.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I'm kinda tired of Rick being "crazy" too, although in Sunday's episode I thought of Lori's appearance more as the angel of Rick's conscience rather than a schizophrenic hallucination. He rightly rationalized that she wasn't really there, but after that scene also changed his mind about the sacrifice.
P.S. I don't think Shane would have put up with The Governor at all...

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
^^ True about Shane but I'm really disappointed at the lack of intensity of this season.
The governor hasn't come across as threatening or intimidating and I find the character so watered down. This has nothing to do with comparing the comic to the tv but rather the style.
If you compare this to Breaking Bad, the two shows are miles apart. Every confrontation between Walt and Tuco or Walt and gus..had people on edge. Rick and the governor? I don't know it's pretty bland.
The last episode was great because of Merle and Daryl. It was heartfelt because Merle was a character that was actually fleshed out.I'll actually miss him.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
^^ Yeah I agree about Merle. I never thought I would miss him, and I was happy when I thought he had been eaten on the rooftop but after this last episode I was bummed to see him die... and then come back and die again. Huge credit to the actor and writers for making me hate and then like that character, although I was a little disappointed in Merle as a zombie, maybe it was just me.. brobles wrote: Anyways I just found it interesting that if he was plucked from s1 and placed in s3, Shane & Rick may have gotten along much better. Totally agree with this, awesome observation Brobles!

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Rick "going crazy" is so weak. People don't do that, not in that way, not like that. I mean trauma does a lot to the human brain, but it's well documented that it's not usually like that. Ugh. It's just poor writing.
I liked, at first, how the show was trying to show how Rick and the Gov were kind of similar and how Rick could go down that path. But they really strayed from it. And yeah, I never felt any real tension from Rick and the Gov. I feel more with him and Andrea or Milton (hey let's name the "nerd" milton, that's how it works right?!)
Anyway, I still like this season more then season 2 except for Shane not being around. People on S2- "Not enough zombies too much BSing!" People on S3- "Too many zombies and violence not enough talking!"

Thats a great point, hahaha. I'm going to miss Merle because I really did like his character and I would have loved to see him kick some more ass with his little brother.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Anyone else notice that annoying thing the zombies are really starting to do every episode now? That whole clicking of their teeth to seem more menacing I assume. Yeah they need to stop that. It's comical.

Again, I thought something "big" would happen but meh, I wasn't COUNTING on it.

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
I'm mildly disappointed too.... I expected them to wrap up the Governor / Woodbury story arc & move on to new territory next season. But we will still be at the prison, Governor on the loose, etc. It just sort-of shambled to the end........ I'm going to stick with it anyway & hope things get back on track in October...

At least and for fuck's sakes, free your ass instead of having a conversation with the person who's about to eat you in a few minutes. That's what pissed me off the most, it's called multitasking!

Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
What I took away from this season:
-That prison set must of cost AMC a lot of money, have to get their moneys worth now for 2 seasons - Started great finished sloppy - I can't really get invested in characters with little screen time and no backstory (flashbacks would have helped greatly) -Therefore I don't care when they die (Merle is the only death that seemed to matter but then again Daryl seemed fine the next episode with zero discussion) -Ridiculous use of one liners from past seasons as major characters die (Merle-"I'm not going to beg", Andrea- "I know how the safety works") - Too many filler episodes -Sadness of what could have been. Prior to season 1, my iTunes pass got me a 17 minute preview introducing the world of Walking Dead. In it Frank Darabont talks in great length about WD and his ideas. Realization that we would be in much better place with him at the helm. -Too many showrunners =loss of continuity - Realization it's all about $$$/ratings with AMC - Making the zombies comical with that whole snapping/ biting thing

I'm disappointed there was no "BANG!" moment, but I can't be mad at the results. I felt like Season 1 ended similarly, no weight to it, just moving on. Despite 2's slow as jumble journey at least the last 2 episodes paid off. To me this show isn't #1 so when it's dumb I just kind of brush it off.
