 The Evil Dead
Anyone checking out The Evil Dead this weekend? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvDLWlxxcakI wasn't on board when I first heard about the remake, but now I'm pretty stoked to see it! The KFHC crew will be boozing it up and checking it out!

 Re: The Evil Dead
I am of the mind that I don't want to see any more remakes/pre-quels/toy franchise movies....ever....but I am sure I will still watch it anyways. And I actually am excited to see where they go with it. Since Evil Dead is already one of those classic cheese factor movies, I am hoping for real (i.e. not CGI) effects and Sam Raimi once again not taking himself too seriously. I think they could actually pull it off, but that's not to say they will. I have been avoiding trailers/spoilers though, so getting kind of excited to see what it holds.

 Re: The Evil Dead
^ this one doesn't have any sam raimi involvement, does it? also, after spider-man, he's off my list. regardless, i'm excited to see this version as long as it's more horror than torture-porn.

 Re: The Evil Dead
Both him and Bruce Campbell are involved as producers, though how much influence they had on the final product is anyone's guess. I also just noted that this one does not have Ash, news which I am liking a lot.

 Re: The Evil Dead
^ is that so? then i have high hopes that the humor and wacky elements have been left intact. i've been trying to keep this movie spoiler-free for myself, but i guess i then miss out on interesting tidbits like that. it's disappointing that there is no ash, but then i'm 100% sure i'd've been disappointed by the would-be-ash-replacement more.

 Re: The Evil Dead
That's what I am thinking too. Any replacement Ash would have been disappointing, so just putting some new group of random actors should be good. Nothing will ever come close to the original anyways, and even if they tried, we already have a 2nd place remake in Evil Dead II.

 Re: The Evil Dead
I'm hoping for no humor or one liners. I went back and watched the first one recently, and I think I actually like it more than Evil Dead 2. I also hope it isn't 2 hours.

I love that evil dead2 was basically a spoof on the first one. I would never pick it over the first though.. but I'm hoping for atleast some of that classic raimi zaniness where its supposed to be this frightening moment but still some hilarious shit going down. I enjoyed how he did some of that in 'drag me to hell'.

 Re: The Evil Dead
The originals were great - and still are!
I yet again ask the question "Why remake?" . . . . oh, its for the money of course. Silly me.
Why come up with original ideas when you can ride the coattails of 80's cult classics all the way to the bank.

Its not a great movie from him, better than most of the Spider-Mans, but seen as just a horror movie, its pretty awesome. Anyone heard how the movie is alluding to it being a hallucination of the main character due to her eating disorder?

I agree and disagree, with 99% of remakes its for the money and I tend to write them off from the get go and when I finally allow my bitter self to watch them I'm usually right, let me in is a good example. But given that evil dead 2 is already basically a remake and was almost as good as the first and the fact raimi is on board gives me enough to actually want to follow it up and watch it. But I am sceptical because it won't have that 80's cult feel, my love for the original cast and characters and also I'm not a big fan of modern cinema effects

 Re: The Evil Dead
Right, just looks to me like they're channeling the Ring, the Grudge, or Paranomal Activity. The charm of the original seems totally removed.

 Re: The Evil Dead
I love the original so the remake is an automatic tough sell for me. But I've kept an open mind about it because some remakes are actually good. Now after seeing the trailer, I refuse to watch it. It'd be silly to expect the remake to have the same feel as the original but this new version seems...sanitized.
Admittedly, I am curious about the violence in the the new movie. From what I read, it's brutal. Their aim was to give the audience the same kind of shock value that the original did.

Fair points . . . but i wont be able to get on board. Evil Dead without Bruce Cambell? C'mon! The chin even makes Army of Darkness a fun movie to watch . . . the new Evil Dead will be like Die Hard with no Bruce Willis or Indiana Jones with no Harrison Ford.

 Re: The Evil Dead
I'm going, but its reluctantly. The original (as is true with most remakes) did not need to be remade.

 Re: The Evil Dead
i've been hearing rumors via interviews with raimi and campbell that they want to keep the original film franchise seperate from the new remake, hinting at a 4th film as Army of Darkness 2. granted, raimi has stated that he never intended for a 4th Evil Dead, hpoefully the AoD angle holds up. i got this mostly from this podcast (which i listened to exclusively for the Ron Bonk segment, the Evil Dead stuff just happened to be a nice easter egg...): http://newyorkcine.podbean.com/2013/03/12/new-york-cine-radio-interview-with-filmmaker-ron-bonkdark-knight-returns-p2-and-evil-dead/

I saw a screening last Sunday and there was a Q&A with director Fede Alvarez where he explained how he pulled off the gory scenes without relying on CGI. Alvarez also said some of the scenes had to be shortened by a few frames in order to get an R rating instead of NC17 from the MPAA. I liked the film. See it in a full theater for audience effect and stay post-credits for the stinger.

I saw it last night...was not blown away, but it was a fun movie. There was some CGI, but very little (not during the gore parts). The bonus at the very end was a nice touch

 Re: The Evil Dead
Hmmmmm. Trying to avoid spoilers about it, but the io9 headline relates it to "torture porn with a little exorcism." That does not bode well. But really, I have no hopes or expectations at all for remakes, Hollywood has proven it can't leave well enough alone, and sure has nothing new to add (unfortunately).

 Re: The Evil Dead
Go see it and think of it more as a reboot than a remake. I enjoyed it quite a bit but dammit, I didn't stay till after the credits. Might have to go again.
