I know in some smaller towns and trouble spots there are people manning certain cameras but that is by far few and in between...to have a person behind every camera in London would cost millions of ££££ an hour...not possible... I'm not one for authoritarian big brother style enforcement yet I have no qualms about their presence as I'm not a criminal I know the same thing could easily have a different effect in the states where police are generally much more heavy-handed...I understand people's concerns over there... here the police are like comical keystone cops in comparison...besides,, they give you the benefit of the doubt and don't carry guns...and are generally polite

But the government is currently seeing that they can effectively restrict the mobility of a large population for a short period of time. I would venture a guess that Bostonians wouldn't put up with this for more than 24-48 hours. But regardless, that's a huge amount of power that the government just demonstrated. I understand that it was a request, and not a legally enforceable curfew, but the effect is largely the same. Sorry, that should have been purple. But maybe a police state, or enforced curfew isn't something to take so lightly. Living in NYC, I can say the NYPD has left a bad taste in my mouth. Generally tough guy/gal assholes with no patience. It always alarms me when I see those bozos strapped with assault rifles and think about what kind of mind has been given that power/weapon.

I'm with ya. The Portland police aren't any different - shoot first, ask questions later. And you better hope you're not black or mentally ill. Heck - even being suspected of being drunk is liable to get you beaten: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6O09cbC ... e=youtu.be

 Re: Chaos in Boston
I just read this. Apparently Jeff Bauman, whose graphic photo was perhaps one of the most shocking following the events in Boston (you can find that elsewhere if you are so inclined, I won't repost it), helped ID one of the bombing suspects from his hospital bed. Boston Bomb Victim in Photo Helped Identify SuspectsI have deep sympathies for Mr. Bauman and all the victims, whose lives will never again be the same after suffering through this, and to come out of that shock and trauma both physical and mental and first thing be thinking beyond yourself is truly commendable.

Well, I'm glad it's over. I watched the feed almost all day. The authorities did a good job. I can't imagine what would have happen in a situation like that here with the super leaders that we have

 Re: Chaos in Boston
I understand, and it is good to hear the perspective of people that were there, but that is still scary the way the cops were surrounding the house with those weapons and having people evacuate one by one with their hands up just to do a search of the house like in the first video. I will edit the "who is scarier" part though.
