and that incurs costs , travel expenses, food, lodging..
i'm curious as to whether the 850. price tag and art as toy label was the suggested solution to these costs provided by
his hosts and event planners, if so then his visit should of been as hyped as the toy itself.
if shigeru himself set the price then as his hosts and
representatives of your local scene maybe other options might of been visited,
a cover charge for entry, nag event posters, autograph session, throw a party.
i'd imagine shigeru looks to his hosts to set the tone and establish what they deem to be acceptable proceedings,
dybbukim is a good example with his cash sale on the street.
the idea that these events might of helped suggest to shigeru that 850. is a reasonable price for the western market and having your customers foot the bill for his visit is what's grossing me out.
it's all about shigeru and you, the rest is just enabling this expensive date.
this is what i'm getting from what's been posted thus far and i wish someone would say that it was all shigeru's doing and that you did your best to make a popular toy available at reasonable costs for your fellow collectors but it seems hard to believe that a japanese artist selling his toys online for 300$ would have the balls to visit his fans in another country and impose an 850$ price tag without being backed by the locals.
