me personally... as long the stuff that comes out looks cool, then it's all good. But i can honestly say I like things "limited" and "exclusive" thrown out once in awhile... because hunting and trading is half the fun IMO.

more choices for your everyday collector, but I think in the long run, or short, they will burn out their audience. The japanese vynil collectors are minorities in the toy collecting market. They will be easily burnt if the Japanese toy makers try to do what the western toy makers do. Ramping production doesn't necessarily mean company growth. The market would not bear this type of growth and in the long run, demand might wane. It's a big gamble on the part of the Japanese toy makers.
In the end, I could care less because I was never a completist anyway and buy toys because I need something to play with.

If I were a completist - or even just collected more than I do - I couldn't imagine trying to keep up if every month is like this October has been. If every month was like October it would turn me away. Luckily I only buy SkullBrains, and even then I just pick and choose the ones I like.

I think you have to worry about Creator burnout and quality issues mostly. Individually the producers are putting out a lot of releases and all of a sudden every Tom Dick and Harry store is getting an exclusive release.
With so much product needing to be produced it's inevitable that quality would drop and ideas become stale.

I love to be able to choose, but I will alway's go for figures I know are more limited PERIOD ! This Oct. has has seen so many releases that I don't think anyone can really keep up unless they have some kinda discount connection. I just don't think it's normal to drop so much doe on vinyl every week for most people. Sooner or later a little voice will say wait a minte here.Money wise I think it just depends on the individual and what thier bank account or credit card statement looks like. The toys are all good and fun, but a $100 here and there starts to add up after awhile.
I have actualy been passing on alot of items this month because I just can't afford all of them at once. There are a few items i'm waiting on and thats it for me. Man i'm kinda hoping Nov.-Dec. are kinda slow on the release schedule. But I also gotta admit, it bugs me that I can't just afford them all. It would sure be nice if these figs averaged like $25 or $30 bucks a pop ! INDEED !

More toys is always good. My money bags are filled with lin. I'm broke and it sucks when I see all these great toys coming out, I'm always weary of busting out the credit card though..it can get out of control.

I think it's great to have more toys, it makes missing out on a release not so painful coz you know something else kick ass is going to come out in a second. It also gives you the opportunity to hunt down some new faves before some jackass hypes'em up and screws up the market. How many of us wanted a Bemon or Gogamezilla three months ago? How many want one now? Good Luck.

not as much fun. i see the JP market turning more western and i've had enough KR drama to last me a while. i've heard it before...blah...blah...business...blah...blah...money but there is something to be said for the low run, hand done, artistic touch to the neo kaiju that has exhisted until now. i really don't know how it will effect me in the long run but i have become way more focused right now. only time will tell.

What I find interesting is that is seems SB, RxH, etc have been successful up to this point. I can understand that they'd like to make even more money - but it's not like they AREN'T making money with their current and past release schedule.
I don't buy the idea that these things aren't profitable unless you ramp-up production. Maybe you won't become wealthy, but they've gotta be profitable.

I wonder what the cost factor is for the amount of plastic per item ? Plus figure in that these molds are being re-used over and over on a grand scale ! Of course there is a big profit.

You've nailed it.

This halloween has been insane. Way, way too much for me personally.

I've missed quite a few of the last Super 7 releases because of limited runs and that's ok by me, it's all part fo the game. Add them to the long list of figures I want but don't have LOL.

well..on top of unit cost ( id say maybe 10-15 dollars each) theres all of this that needs covered as well:

employee/owner living wages
rent for shop
msc operating costs ( utilities.phones. shipping, taxes, event fees and transport costs etc etc etc)

its not just making a toy.

hypothetical costs to be a small Japanese Toy Company

with 1 full time owner.operator:

living wages: 50.000 per year
rent for shop space in trendy area: 25,000 per year
Event costs 4 events a year 20.000
operating costs 17,500 a year
cost for sculpting, molds etc 1 figure: 20,000 (1000 pieces)

total lowball cost estimate:sat 120,000 a year

sales of 1000 pieces at wholesale= 25,000

tax on above sales (30% in japan)=9000.00

total return=14,000

net loss first year:106,000
