Great news!! No need to protest!

"Shout! Factory opened pre-orders for their upcoming Ultra Q DVD release! This digital colored remaster of the predecessor of the Ultraman franchise will be August 13th.
This classic 1966 tokusatsu classic had a total of 28 episodes, and is often referred to as Japan's equivalent to America's The Twilight Zone. This 6-disc DVD set costs $59.97 in retail but Shout! Factory offers the set for $47.98. In addition, Amazon offers this set for $41.98. For foreign fans, sadly this set is only available in the US and Canada."

Aha, you just beat me to it!! :D Killer news indeed. So happy this long awaiting release is here. The next few months of anticipation will certainly be trying. I wonder why Amazon is offering it cheaper though? I would much prefer to give my money directly to Shout!, but that does seem to be a considerable difference (a buck or two and I wouldn't think twice over it).

But in any case...........Q!!

Well this'll do!

“For the next 30 minutes, your eyes will leave your body and arrive in this strange moment in time…”

So... in what direction should we try to steer our hardworking underground subbers in now? We need a new fantasy project. :D

Post Re: Ultra Q
Funny you should say that, as I just recently heard that a sub crew I wasn't familiar with has been working on Return. I managed to find listings, but also this message:

ON HIATUS - Return of Ultraman: Touma, our fabulous TL, is either busy with work, life, running panels at cons, or fighting the evils that is this show. This show is so evil, because of the vocabulary used, that she likes to have help on it. She found some native Japanese people to help her on campus, but is looking to meet some more since they went back to Japan (exchange program thingy). Basically, this show is not only an Ultraman show, that involves a lot of science (technobable) and military talk, but this show seriously is evil. It’s old, the characters are poorly dubbed over a lot of the time (their lines are said fast), and there’s older slang used sometimes. Also, add the fact that there’s no Japanese scripts online for any of these (if anyone has a link to them, then please, send them over ^^”). It would even make a paid professional cringe. We need another translator on board to check some lines here or there. So please help out, fellow translators!

From what else I've been able to dig up it seems they threw in the towel at around episode 15, but I've only turned up release links for the first 11, some of which are presently dead. I haven't spoken directly with anyone involved yet, but when I do I'll try to get news on if reuploads are possible, and where the overall status of the project is at.

Awesome, the Return series is one of the best. I hope Leo gets done, its even darker and more violent, crazy to think it was for kids but TV was alot different then.

Ha! Verified and confirmed, as I strongly suspected. I think a version with both might have just blown my mind, but I would have been keen to spend the extra amount on its complete redundancy just the same. I am happy we will be getting the B&W release - though I admit having seen the colourised version, it was also done spectacularly, far far better than I would have thought (I think I still have bad impressions of colourisation from the early film and television days).

Well, I really wanted to give my money directly to Shout! to show how much I appreciate their company, and how excited I am for this release. The extra 6$ for Amazon gave me a bit of hesitation though, a dollar or two I don't mind eating - but without promise of any 'extra,' I thought "hmmm..." but then I just saw this: :(
Quote:
Canada Standard Shipping

Merchandise Total ----------Shipping & Handling
$40.01 to $80.00 ----------$31.99

Hope you guys and gals south of the border realise how good you have it with online purchasing, because this is the norm on websites these days, toys included.

Whelp, the reports are in and S!F's DVD set of Q get the big raspberry... crap picture quality and subs that are not just lazily translated but also poorly timed! Whee.

Here's a screen cap I found demonstrating the wonders of the image quality -

And a fun little compare between the subs on the US set and the ones Tsuburaya are keeping in the vault -

Sigh. Plans to marry the English subs with the RJ2 remasters have quite understandably been put on hold for the time being. The hunt for a translator begins anew!

What a shame, but not a surprise. I netflix'ed a disc of Jonny Socko and thought Shout fucked up on that one so I did not pre-order Ultra-Q. What sucks is Shout releases a crap job & then attributes the low sales to lack of interest rather than their incompetance. I was really looking forward to this release :(

That is indeed terrible news. I am almost glad that I could not manage to get them affordably to Canada. Almost. Humphf. Guess the wait for a proper release of this will continue. Anyone got a scoop on the U7 set? I was after that one too, but since I already have a decent 'non-licensed' version, I have still held back - well, and I really want Ep 12.
