not sure what I feel about the new layout. seems too cluttered and sometimes I get confused. maybe I'll get used to it.

Post Re: New Flickr
I like how it's larger but since the browser at work is ancient it's having a hard time downloading certain elements on the site which freezes my browser.

Also, last I looked, anyone can view the sizes of your pictures now. Not restricted. But FLICKR is saying you can't right click and save and they are making the copyright information more prominent.

If someone is determined to steal your photos they can just print screen, I just wish FLICKR didn't make it easier for that to happen.

Also check your privacy settings in the new FLICKR. I had to make adjustments.

Post Re: New Flickr
the new photo view / navigation is a big improvement and long overdue (honestly I don't know how it could've gotten worse than it was).

The "new features to discourage downloading" are fucking shitty. Hopefully everyone will turn that shit off (you can turn it off in the options) but it should not be the default. Why would I put my photos on the internet if I cared about downloading? Although usually the people who are most uptight about that stuff are the worst photographers.

Problems with slow loading are pretty standard with redesigned sites, I'm sure they'll sort that part out.

Post Re: New Flickr
I figure that they are making these changes at least in part based on data about screen resolution of the user community. I guess my laptop 1024x768 is pretty feeble compared to most users. The upshot for me is that the layout on the new photo page is clearly optimized for people who have more pixels on their screen. The old layout is more compact and works perfectly on my screen size.

I do agree that the Newer/Older buttons are nice. But otherwise, the new design makes me scroll around more and have to click more to do anything.

However, I'm sure someone will quickly come up with a Greasemonkey script for Firefox that restores the old layout. If you're not familiar with the Greasemonkey extension, it's worth checking out. Also userscripts.org is home to thousands of scripts that people have contributed to tweak sites in ways large and small.

I really hate the new look. Then again I hate when any site that I use often changes to a new "improved look". Why? Do they not realize that most people go back because of the familiarity of it? I swear in this day in age I'm so sick of everyone having to tweak the old formula to try to get more people into something. Has it ever worked? Remember they tried to change coke? Leave it alone, and you damn kids get off my lawn!

I'm with you guys - I really don't like the new Flickr - I had it turned on for awhile but some features I use were missing.
Do you think they read this forum and will not change it.

Overall, I don't think it was an improvement.

The one thing I like is that you can grab the HTML to embed the photo w/link easily from the top page (and in any size)- rather than clicking through to the actual image itself. Does that make sense?

Also, the new 640 resize option is nice.

Post Re: New Flickr
So I just checked out the 'new' flickr. While I am happy about the extra storage - which kinda really sucks for anyone who was made to pay for the PRO - I could not be more disappointed in the layout. Ugh! I only just started browsing it, but I am soooo tired of everything having to be 'social media.' If I wanted another Tumblr/Instagram/whatever f'ing app then I would be using those fer chrissake. I don't know if this is because of the new acquisition by Yahoo, but whatever the reason, I am not impressed.

Atrocious redesign. So many things went wonky. Not even going to bother to figure it out unless I feel a "need" to.

On the other hand, if you're on the fence, I'd advise against paying for Photobucket based on numerous bad experiences. They're censorship-happy (they deleted my photos of SF murals because some of them included "controversial" anti-torture content) and their customer service is rude without cause ... if they actually bother to respond at all. By contrast, the Flickr staff is responsive and efficient, so if you're going to pay for extra features, Flickr is still preferable to Photobucket (who are also prone to forehead-slappingly poor redesign decisions.)

wow...we now get 1TB for being a free user! so...what do you get for subscribing to the Pro account?
...and yeah, it looks like it could be any other photo-hosting site now especially since they took the color out of their name/logo (that's a dumb move IMO since it was the most recognizable part of their name brand).

Argghhhhhhh! My eyes are burning! I saw this post and just had to see for myself. Why must they continuously fuck with flickr? Just leave it the hell alone. Simplicity, is what made it nice. Any way to revert back to the old layout?

paid services include double storage ($500/yr!) and ad-removal ($50/yr). current pro account holders are eligible for prorated refunds or lower-cost renewals in the future. all in all, very nice features for free accounts. more than makes up for the new ui growing pains.

Get out of here with your positivity Bill.

Hahahaha, 500$, are they serious? Who would ever pay that? Oooh, great, you can go from 1TB to 2. Complete marketing fail. And I am really pissed off that I can't reduce the size of the images to thumbnails, even though it says I can. I don't want to browse for pages and pages. And now all the albums are totally wonked with their 'preview' pic. Just terrible.

No ads. Evidently in a few months, free users will be bombarded with advertising. Nice!
