so you guys want 1 tb of photo storage and unlimited sharing for free with no ads?

the new layout isn't any different than what "view contacts' photos" has looked like for months. you'll get used to it until they change it again to match the latest trends of that time

I'm hoping that this means that all the older photo posts here that instantly became message screens when the pay-to-play policy hit all come flooding back to the threads. That would be a good thing, right?

I've always hated those justified and light box views! Somehow they always reverted back. The header feature is nice, can't adjust the pic I'm using from my photostream, even if it says you can. At least not on this ipad. I really loathe that giant ass pic endless scroll. That's my main issue.

Point taken, but no. The former free/pricing structure was fine. Already fairly generous and a decent deal for those choosing the paid plan. I realize that this is in part a response to drops in storage costs and the prospect of improved bandwidth, but that didn't really necessitate the redesign or the proposed pricing options per se. To me this all seems so characteristic of poor strategizing at Yahoo!. Although I have little patience for freeloading attitudes, there is a case to be made (increasingly ignored by the corporate world) that the users are content providers, accounting for the site traffic which informs ad revenue rates. I'd better stop before this gets too spreadsheet-y.

^ but free users were already seeing ads. they're essentially being upgraded for free. it's not an introduction of a new revenue generating "feature" at the detriment of users (at least not any more so than before).

What the fuck happened to flickr!! Is there any way to make our contact's pictures smaller? now its even more tedious to put photos on here. why the hell does this remind me of a combination between facebook, myspace, and instagram?

The photos don't have space to breath. You can't just focus one picture, it's like a technicolor battering ram to the senses.

I think I'll mostly be sticking to instagram from now- just feels a lot saner.

prolly getting ready to appeal more to the tumblr crowd.

With the buy, it only makes sense that the services resemble each other. Meaning, now that tumblr has that aspect of the market on its side, now yahoo will probably push flikr as a proper competing product to IG, hence the similarities.

I dont particularly love it. I like simple, bare bones design.

i wish the had a rollback feature

I hate it.

I'm not adverse to progress but when I'm paying for the use of a service i expect to be consulted about major changes.
It is not the Flickr i paid-for anymore . . . is it really acceptable they overhauled the site with no regard to the users preferences?.

It just looks like some mutant spawn of Tumblr now.

Kill it :x

Post Re: New Flickr
I have mixed feelings about this. 1To for free is great since I always deleted pictures to get back to the 200 display limit before.
The new layout is not that great, everything covers too much space on the screen. But I think I'll get used to it. I just fear when free users will be flooded with ads :?

I tried to click on one link at the bottom of the page to read the new terms, but actually, you can't, it's immediately loading more photos and push the bottom of the page further down... Fail.

I guess it will eventually push me posting more photos, and I'll have to try the Android ap, hope it's not a mess.

I imagine all this being a major turn down for pro accounts though...

i dont know if this has been mentioned here already (i just breezed through) but yesterday Tumblr was purchased by Yahoo... makes me think that Yahoo did that and immediately switched flickr to a more tumblr esque style and appeal to "community" style like tumblr or something.

i hate the new version, i wasnt given an option and it just switched over yesterday. the fact that i had to upload a cover photo blew my gasket.

i really hope they regress and change it back

no way . . . they've never listened to any of the thousands of complaints over minor changes in the past so they won't start now

I thought it was bad enough on an iPhone, I tried it at home thinking it might be more tolerable, wrong. Worse actually, at home it's bigger! Glad I just renewed pro last week thinking I'd use it more. :(

So yahoo bought Tumblr, just before launching this new shitty Flickr. Wonder how long before they ruin that? Why can't they ever just leave things alone? Everything always has to be bigger and better with more users, usually to the detriment of the original users.

Has anyone else checked out the help forum on Flickr? Full on rebellion of hate for new format. Oh since they made it difficult to get anywhere on their site without being inundated with giant photos, here's how: top right corner, click on your icon- bottom of the page.

New layout blows. Giant photos only? No text? Are we so illiterate that websites have to become online picture books to amuse us?

Doubt they'll revert unless people start dropping their service in droves. Large corporations anticipate numerous people not liking the change but won't budge because they've invested so much in that change. It's a battle of attrition basically, either users totally revolt drop the service and yahoo is forced to eat crow, or not enough people leave and people just begrudgingly get use to the new service/layout.

Moog that second link is from 2007-2008 I think. I take it you were just trying to show this has happened before and nothing gets done?

I'm being proactive, here's the link to voice your disgust in the new layout:

Thanks for the heads up on that. Posted a short gripe too, but I doubt it will effect any change. As mentioned I suspect this is a war of attrition, and all they (being anyone responsible for this) will focus on is the few positive comments. The majority of people will probably end up sucking it up, as hard as that is to take - but this is what we have seen before with changes to other major service sites online.

I doubt they will revert back or even give an option to choose. Sure many pro members are getting these emails from Flickr.

"As a Pro Member, your subscription remains the same. You'll enjoy unlimited space for your photos and videos, detailed stats and an ad-free experience. However, you can switch to a Free account before August 20, 2013.

Thanks! Flickr"

In other words F off if you don't like our new site. We will refund the remaining $$ owed for the months of your term if you decided to close your Pro by August 20.

Sadly I am paying for 2 accounts.
