 Re: New Flickr
I remember someone saying there's a lack of BB code is an issue. Also, they have it so you can migrate pics from flickr to ipernity (90 at a time) with just a few add-ons to your browser. The biggest issue is that lack of code...unless someone's figured out a way to post pics from there to here.

I posted this from ipernity. Had to 'inspect element' and grab the link.

 Re: New Flickr
^ having to resort to developer/debugging functionality of the browser isn't user friendly for most folks they've got to have a sharing option somewhere, no?

 Re: New Flickr
So apparently to be able to do that (grab your code the easy way) you must be part of clubipernity, that means you need to pay.

 Re: New Flickr
^^^ until i find a good substitute i might have to. ipernity has a much tougher 'no copyrighted material' policy. They want you to only upload photos you've taken yourself. Of course, it depends how much they check up on that sort of thing. For fanboys like me with probably 40% scans of book covers etc. in our flickr accounts, thats no good. I also get the feeling ipernity is a bit sedate and middle of the road. There was someone already snobbily complaining about photos of 'Blythe Dolls' swamping the site I dunno, i've started a free account with 'em . . . i might just upload all my toy photos there and see how it goes.

 Re: New Flickr
Instagram? Think about it before you say no... Snap a pic with your phone. Upload. Done. You can even go to the website and right click to grab the image url. There's no charge. You can set your account to private so you decide who follows you. So far there hasn't been a limit as far as space or upload. The only issue is the square format. Oh wait...I don't think you can upload from your computer.

And the size. All Instagram photos are exactly 612 x 612.
I'm sticking with Flickr. Dust will settle and it'll be fine.

 Re: New Flickr
OK so I mainly use flickr as a photo hosting site, well till I became friendly on it with everyone here...I guess I'm just going to go back to that then. Flickr has no functionality for me except that anymore. If ipernity won't even let you cut n paste code that's not going to work.

 Re: New Flickr
yeah, if anything, this new setup has me cleaning up my friends and deleting all the mishmash and old peers that i dont really care for. i can still click contacts and browse with ease, as well as see the favorites and whatever else. its not too terrible, and im sure like everything else ill get used to it. also, love this picture aldo! Re: New Flickr
I'm going to stick it out. I noticed if you go to your photostream and then choose edit you will have the old look and format so I just stay in that mode.

 Re: New Flickr
Yeah Linda that's the only way to view your own photostream as we all remember it. I do the same thing. Man flickr is down to a crawl speed wise though so it makes me stay away. Oh an michael, I did the same thing lol! I deleted a bunch of contacts, but hey if you're posting pictures of customized deadbeets that's not what I want to be seeing when I open my flickr page. Delete!

I really dont see how that could hurt anything. do they still have the option of using the old uploader like they used to?

And anyways, thankfully we have SB for that these days. I should be more discerning about the contacts list too maybe to make it easier, or work out a 'friends' list. I definitely don't need to see pages of huge images on the new flickr featuring KRap or stuff that has gone through the MonsterColor vomit cycle. And I second Michael's sentiments, fantastic photo Aldo!

 Re: New Flickr
Thanks Michael and Steve!
I'll keep both accounts for the time being. I'm already paying for flickr so I'll give them time to see how they play it. In the mean time I'll get used to ipernity.

what else aside from those 2... Endless scrolling in that giant justified view is my number one issue. Not having the option to view my photostream with all the information under each picture like I was able to before.

The scrolling part goes hand in hand with the ugly.

what else aside from those 2... No more Pro accounts. Double what it used to cost for stats. Introduction of advertising ($50 a year not to have them). Endless scrolling. Everything on black background. Diminishment of comments. Much slower on older hardware (like at my internet cafe). So far i have'nt found an acceptable alternative so i might be stuck with Shitr for now!

 Re: New Flickr
Clunky and ugly. I just don't really use it anymore. I have a cloud drive big enough, I usually just use instagram or Tumblr, for nicer pics I'll see them when someone posts them on a forum I care about. Pretty easy to get by not using it. I'll use Imgur for uploading to post on boards.

 Re: New Flickr
The only problem I see with the scrolling is that I can't go back up to top without scrolling back up or clicking something on the header, but then how far back do you guys need to go? Advertising...wasn't there ads long before the change or was the lack of it because you guys paid for Pro? Why do you guys like the white background over black? Are comments really that important to you guys? I'm mean, you get a notice if someone leaves a comment, don't you? Are stats really useful to you guys? Are you trying to build something using the metrics they give you? I don't like how it looks, but I'm really not about to migrate, and then make everyone go through the same pain of grabbing all my pics, signing up to a new place, uploading all my pics, and then try to figure out the new place...then maybe find out that it really doesn't suit my needs. Let's face it, if you want to know how a new site works, you'll need to sign-up, upload, have others sign-up, upload, and then add each other...and after typing this out, I already don't want to look at other sites. Nags are ugly...but some of you guys buy them

 Re: New Flickr
I'm not only an asshole here but on the flickr forum as well: http://www.flickr.com/help/forum/en-us/ ... 24/page14/Funny as soon as I made a comment about Thomas Hawk pretty much getting off his high horse he had a flickr staff member step in and say something about "abuse won't be tolerated" What a crybaby. Well at least flickr is getting the message no one besides a few brown nosers like the new look. Jeez I hate that Thomas Hawk guy.

 Re: New Flickr
So those of you wondering if flickr will ever revert back to the old site (which pretty much none of us figured they would), this was posted by a staff member from flickr:
The point of this thread is to have feedback on the current design that's more than just "change it back." We do hear everyone who has commented here and in the previous thread, and even agree with many of the concerns you have brought up over the past week.
To put an end to speculation, and to hopefully give some people closure, the old site is not coming back. However, we will continue to improve upon the new pages, from their usability to their overall performance. These changes will be made according to a balance of qualitative feedback and data, both of which we are monitoring closely.
