Re: Game of Thrones
The episode was 83% exposition, but in a good way - every scene was extremely well done and made me eager for 9 months to pass so I can see what happens next. And it's not like plenty of stuff didn't go down: Arya so rules (as does the Hound), we got to learn about cock sausage and here's another thing I wasn't expecting - Aaaaaaaaah! Jon Snow!
So nice to have a show on the air that's so smartly bundled together. I think they do a colossal job of weaving so many complex storylines together and it manages to be intelligent, engaging, exciting and hilarious - "You just sent the most powerful man in Westeros to bed without his supper." Classic.
Did I mention Arya rocks? I was just thinking to myself before it aired that I missed "A Man," and couldn't wait for the Faceless Men to show up again.
Totally a show to geek out over guilt-free. Now I just have to restrain myself for two or three more years to be able to crack the first book.
I liked it but I thought the ending was a little too cheesy. I was anticipating someone in the crowd stabbing Daenerys or shooting an arrow at a dragon or something

I wish the Daenerys storyline would just go away. Fucking sexy Mother Teresa already we get it!
Whenever they switch to her storyline I just pull out the iPad to check email, and think to myself "Yeah yeah she's still looking for a bloody ship, setting some slaves and /or repressed people free, blah, blah, blah...." Two years already! How long does it take to find some damn ships? She's got the army just get it over with already.

Re: Game of Thrones
^ Ha! Funny.
I'm enjoying the story line actually, and think that it's a very necessary counterbalance to all the über masculine infighting that's going on in the rest of the continent. Without it and the coming of the white walkers we'd all just be watching a Mario Puzo novel in rags and chain-mail instead of three-piece finery. That said, it is kind of hilarious how 20th century progressive her story is playing out to be. It's not like we're entering Alan Alda / Aaron Sorkin territory, but I laughed out loud when I noticed that Sexy Mother Teresa was wearing a pant suit straight out of Ms. magazine, circa '78, last night!

I think more than a few of us here agree, she's becoming a bit pathetic. Rest of the episode was fine for me, love Arya and Hound but also Bran and now waiting for Jon Snow to rise (that is if he every will).

Re: Game of Thrones
On the Daenerys topic. I have been wondering- what the hell happened to her Dothraki hoard? I mean, she was taken in by them, and was "one of them" and everything. Are they now relegated to following up the Unsullied army like redheaded step children? Or did I miss something and they parted ways? I preferred Daenerys when she was getting all tough and Dothrakied up.

Re: Game of Thrones
^^ Did'nt the Dothraki hoard break up and leave when Khal Drogo died?
Although the Daenerys story is a bit repetitive i would imagine it is building to a seriously kick-ass ending. I cant wait to see some fully-grown dragons in action.

Totally, me too.
I'm also starting to think Bran is going to become one of the best characters in the show . . . I'm hoping Arya and him are going to lay waste to the Lannister house and everyone associated with them.

^^^ Good to know. Loose ends annoy me on shows I obsess over.

This just made me wonder...
What if Bran can control Daenerys' dragons? He could mind meld with one (or whatever- lol) and have them chew Joffery the fuck up.

Neither did I! But... (and here I think we should have a separate GoT thread for people who have read the books)

Indeed. I feel Arya's rage, she has all it takes to become one deadly assassin.

I was actually thinking the same But I doubt Joffrey will live that long (not spoiling as I haven't read the books, I just feel the boy is too stupid to survive).

I am glad I am not alone in the bored with Daenerys camp. While I think (yes, yes...in the books) that that aspect of the plot is quite good, all of it in the recent seasons has just become fodder I feel. I think, and I am just proposing one reason here, that it may be because so many people in the general audience love that aspect of the show most, and see her as a strong female character. Which is totally great; but it is like they decided just to emphasise that too much, and are foregoing the plot and character developments for her that are an important aspect of the novels. Anyway, if this is where they are going with that, I would suggest a less-is-more approach.
I am still not convinced on the splitting of the series this time, but in any case I am already eager for the next year to pass to get on with it.
My only other issue with the episode, and again, this seems to be wholly due to HBO trying to shove certain aspects of female attractiveness down our throats, is the way they have been handling the whole Shae character. The actress' performance is great, but well.....

Re: Game of Thrones
Since reading all the books in a one-after-the-other fashion recently . . . . I'm more interested to know when the next book is out. I still love the TV show though, now i've read the books i can predict with confidence that Season 4 is gonna be action-packed and kick-arse!

GOT is one of the (very, very) rare occurrences where I think I might enjoy the television series better than the books. The first few books are phenomenal but after finishing the series to date, I get the feeling Martin has no idea where the multiple story lines are headed.

Re: Game of Thrones
^^ Yeah, i think that's a problem with most long-running fantasy book series . . . . way too many characters & story-lines to juggle.
My brother just sent me a link to this. Quite funny . . . . .

I definitely disagree. I really like the TV show, but it pales in comparison to the books. And from what I've heard Martin knows exactly how everything wraps up. And he told the producer of the show how things end, so that if the unthinkable happens they'll be able to continue the show until the end.

Re: Game of Thrones
Just finally finished Season 3 on DVD last week. Damn, that red wedding took me by surprise. Pretty graphic and numbing. Its like, now who do you root for? They are sort of forcing you to like Daenerys. Meh.
But not having HBO is going to kill me for another year. I have to avoid all threads regarding this show since it started up again. At least the next season of Californication is now coming out on DVD.
