Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
What follows is a project I've been working on off and on since last year - a restructured and slightly expanded version of the visual DB divided up by company license (or lack thereof) and ordered chronologically by the actual show / film / commercial / comic that the characters were licensed from. It's not meant in any way to replace Lixx's awesome first page, just as another way to look at the same material; a sort of shadow DB. I'll be updating the posts on this page whenever new toys hit the shelves or new information comes to light. Hopefully a few of you find it useful.

Super work in documenting all these, I truly admire the hardwork and effort put behind such databases. I thought I am hardcore into this hobby but my dedication is definitely kindergarten here!

Just perusing this thread and it has just become massive. It's both inspiring and depressing at the same time.

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
Minor note- I have confirmed that unpainted peach flesh versions of the Titanis and Corythosaurus exist. These were probably given out as gifts.
Since we have seen 4 of the 6 sculpts from Batch 1.5 of the dinos in unpainted gift form, it is probably safe to say that the other two (Carnotaurus and Gorilla) also exist somewhere out there.

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
Here's my latest dorky addition to the project - an historical timeline containing all the prehistoric sculpts: I grew tired of absently wondering when each of these beasties were actually wandering the earth, so an hour with wikipedia and some cut 'n paste with screen caps was long overdue. I learned a lot of interesting stuff and, as a sideline carrot, finally got around to IDing which of the creatures in the Dino Series aren't actually a dinosaur - Eryops, Placerias and Titanis. Whew. Ignore or enjoy!

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
Scored a bagged 62 godzilla in dark blue for 5,000 yen today at ichibanboshi. I couldn't believe my luck, it was just laying on the counter. Ichibanboshi has always been my favorite place to shop in Tokyo,,, great pieces, great prices,, he truly is a golden boy

Wow man, that is fantastic. A superb find for a great toy, and and excellent price too. So nice to know that, as rare as it is, once in a while a deal can be found for older Buta figures.

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
Can someone confirm which pochi pochi came first? Was it the yellow version then orange or vice versa.
On the buta blog it shows a picture of the yellow version but no sales info. The first sales info was orange but I just want to double check.

^^^ It actually was covered in the blog! The first sale info was for the yellow pup, March 23, 2009: http://sofutoyakigangu.blogspot.com/2009/03/5.htmlThe next blog post, from April 8th, announces that it sold out: http://sofutoyakigangu.blogspot.com/200 ... -post.htmlMay 5th saw the announcement of the pending release of the orange one later that month: http://sofutoyakigangu.blogspot.com/200 ... -post.htmlNow shush, everyone - I want page 7 to last forever!

Re: Butanohana Database- a visual guide
Posting a reply since toothaction slyly added a couple of incredible new finds to the database.
A previously unseen Giant Gorilla and Placerias turned up recently. Both are on cream vinyl. The Gorilla is painted similarly to the light blue vinyl release; the Placerias is painted similar to the Grumble Toy exclusive version on yellow GID vinyl.
Curiously, these painted cream vinyl versions were bagged with the later version blue header used with the Grumble Toy set
Unpainted Placerias and Titanis on cream vinyl have turned up in the past. This suggests to me that there is also a painted cream vinyl Titanis out there.
The way these painted versions turned up is puzzling. The header suggests that they were released at the tail end of Butanohana's dino production. The cream vinyl suggests that they were produced at the same time as the Edmontania, Iguanadon and Protoceratops, but were somehow not given a wider release.
Very odd, but it is always exciting to 'discover' toys years after they were produced and sold.
