Post Giant Godzilla figures
Being a Tsuburaya man, the ol' King of Monsters was never my prime focus, but these massive guys certainly deserve their own thread. Quelle tragédie that one isn't in the vintage section. There are a few 'big guys' out there, between Bullmark, bootlegs, Popy, and Beetland, and that is just off the top of my head. Plus, whatever this guy is. :)

I'll start it off with the only vintage one I have, this Popy beauty. He actually wasn't expensive when I got him, because someone had cut a slot in the front to make a bank out of him - but that doesn't really matter to me, none of my vintage figures are mint, just means they have been played with and loved. It isn't crudely done, and I still really love the figure in spite of it. [Sadly, he didn't come packed full of old Yen though.] Strangely enough, I have seen a few of these Popy Giants 'modified' in the same way. Go figure.

Anyways, here he is in all his great, chunky glory.

It actually was made and sold as a bank by Beetland around 1983, and patterned after the Popy sculpt. More details here from ClubTokyo.

Beetland also made a lamp version! Still a really cool toy though.

Ah yep, that is him, thanks. I had only seen the Beetland lamp and telephone rest before. And the Japanese markings and 'Popy' footprint had me fooled. Makes sense now though. I wonder if Beetland just created a cast mold off the original Popy figure, and hence the slightly larger size difference between them.

I've always liked the look of the large Popy and Beetland Godzillas. I'll post the ones I have in my collection, sorry I don't have individual shots at the moment:

Giant red Popy:

My absolute favorite of the large Popy Godzillas though is the Jumbosaurus. First roaring Godzilla toy:

I need to come off my wallet and track down one of those Beetland figures, next time I get some extra cash. I absolutely love them, the red hands, chunky pose.... UGH!!

Here's the Beetland lamp. Not really effective as a light source to read by but can be used to make things a little more, romantic...of course this may totally backfire if your date doesn't get the collecting Godzilla "thing."

Makes a roaring sound when you lift the phone off of the rest.

When you pull his string he roars...wish it was a Godzilla 70's roar. Kind of sounds like a screechy cat IMHO. He's a big boy though.

I used to have a bunch of these when I was little. Then we got a dachshund who absolutely hated them. I used to have battles, me commanding the Godzilla vs. the pooch. He gnawed off all their arms and faces over time. I'll have to see if my Mom still has any pictures I could post. I remember she took a ton.
