Yeah the price for that clear Triple Fighter wasn't surprising to me, it was just I had hoped it might slip under the radar a bit since TF isn't as popular as some of the other heroes. Not to be. Conversion rate isn't as nice as it was in the beginning of the summer, otherwise I might have put in a larger bid. Then again I don't see ol' clear boy pop up that much.

I was going to bid on it but decided not to. It's a bootleg and the mask is the correct one, but pretty shitty looking right (the mask)? I saw it in Mark Nagata's photos before and it's the same one (flash not removed). Here's the pic you can see it on the left: Mark Nagata Ultraman HQ by toybot studios, on Flickr

Geez, that sure is pricey, as it looks like he may be missing some missile-firing accessories too. Is that the norm? So many of these guys I wish I never knew existed.

You NEVER see that Skyzel come up. I think I've seen a Granzel...maybe *once*...ever. Or maybe I just completely fabricated that in my brain. But Skyzel? Forget it.

I use to have that clear Triple Fighter years ago, and for the longest time I thought it was meant to be a yellow vinyl and beautiful as it was. Same withe the clear Mach Baron.

Anyone know why the price is so high? Because of the intact cape?

Not yahoo, but this kinda blew my mind the other day... There was a time this toy commanded over $2k. Granted this one may not be in the nicest shape...but c'mon... Given the sky-rocketing prices of pretty much *every other* vintage Japanese toy, I'm wondering if this is due to more of these showing up in the marketplace...or just demand waning for some reason...

Probably just lack of attention to it I am guessing. I know I didnt see it, but I am rarely on the ebay these days. Someone sure got a heck of a bargain though. I just know when [if] I ever have real collecting money the figures I need will all be back up to the multiple thousands. And I have to agree, there has seemed to be a trend of prices going a bit nuts lately, especially for stuff in the 'western' market. Got my fingers crossed for the bubble bursting!

Just the Hawaii spray Ghidrah was commanding over 2K? Are you sure you aren't confusing it with the flesh-vinyl Hawaii Ghidrah?

Re: strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre o
Nope--I think the seller just mislabeled the figure in the auction text. The Hawaiian spray KG (orange vinyl, crazy paint) is supposed to be easier to find (though I'm not sure I've ever seen one in the wild). Only supposed to be around $350-500, according to the DeSentis article (though those prices are obviously a bit out of date!). The auction above was for the straight-up Hawaiian (caucasian vinyl, more conservative paint)...which, according to the same article, should be $2k+. That estimate probably needs some serious revision--I got mine a few years ago for maybe around $600!

One of the tail-tell signs of the Hawaii-spray Ghidrah is that it has silver eyes (like the one in the ebay auction), while the flesh-vinyl version actually maintains the red eyes. This is also most likely why the seller didn't bother to show the bottom of the feet, so they could hope someone would think the light-orange vinyl shown in the photo was actually the flesh-variant. But yes, I agree with you that a majority of the prices in that article seem very high.

Re: strange or rare yahoo auctions post here (after theyre o
Sanjeev, that was just the hawaii spray King Ghidrah not the flesh. And for those keeping score at home, there are four paint variants of the hawaii spray. That said, the spray pops up often enough compared to all the others. 3-400 was where I expected it to end.
The Skyzel and Granzel Missile fires are both ridiculously hard to get. I was not surprised at that price. Quite frankly, if the seller had simply put the standard bandai missiles into it, it probably would have gone out of hand.
The fly from Flying Attack Human I actually expected to go higher in this recent bout of paying crazy money for bagged figures. The figure is super obscure, not well collected by anyone in Japan, but hard as heck to find, and one of those series that Americans love because the figure is so bananas looking. (like Leafman for instance.) I honestly thought the bag would make it hit 900-1000 because bags have been so crazy lately. This is one of those figures you never see turn up, much less bagged, but my guess is the competition for it was from the US and China, and not from Japan. Loose it is a solid 350-400, so bagged gets a big "who knows".

Oh interesting! I didn't realize the silver-eyed Hawaiian spray Ghidorah was the *only* silver-eyed version of Ghidorah (at least, according to CT). Definitely a tell-tale sign. Good to know! And, yeah, the crappy pics in the auction are a bit shady, huh? Anyway, given that the price didn't skyrocket, it fortunately doesn't look like anyone got taken (thinking it was a Hawaiian on caucasian...heh...I like saying that!). Brian, do the Skyzel and Granzel MFVs normally have *different* missiles from the standard Bandai ones? I know the Grendizer has ones shapes like his Shoulder Boomerang weapons. If they're no different from the common ones, it seems crazy that the seller wouldn't just toss some spares in with the Skyzel...

The Fly also came up in June (unbagged) for around 42000 yen: You're absolutely right though I see the Fly even less than I do the King Flasher and that guy is also pretty tough to find.

It's not the only, but for the lighter-orange base, lighter-green coloring like that I would definitely look at the eyes first. Once you've held a few flesh-color vinyls in hand it gets much easier to tell the photos. (at least, I've heard, it's not like I've ever owned any of these things...)

The Flesh is quite a bit different looking honestly. The colors look quite a bit washed out as it sits on flesh vs orange vinyl. It almost looks faded at first blush until you realize otherwise. I will try to get pictures of all 4 for you. Ultimately, it is dark green spray on front of wings only (red eye or silver eye) or dark green spray on front and back of wings (red eye or silver eye).
