 Sunguts
I am becoming obsessed with the that one line of the cartoony monsters.Have a few on the way. Found out the deal on the Skull robe dudes, they where a coupn-only item you could get by collecting 10 coupons. I got a guy tracking them down for me in J. Does anyone know if this is a comic book as well? A TV show? Any info appreciated.

That stuff is based on the drawings of Shigeru Mizuki. He is an expert on Yokai, Japanese folk monsters. He was the creator of the famous Ge Ge Ge No Kitaro manga. The Yokai from the Yoaki Monsters movies from the sixties are also based on his drawings.

 Re: Sunguts
Didn't want to clog the section with another thread, so I dredged up this one to post. Seems appropriate since there is plenty of Mizuki Caveman talk already in it. Anyhow I know this will only interest a few people here that don't collect nags, or "fill in whatever new hyped toy there is at the moment", BUT Sunguts did release two new versions of the Shigeru Mizuki Caveman earlier in the month (if I didn't already own the 1st GID I'd jump on old man grey glow): You guys are slipping, even in my vintage world I was aware of these. Or if someone posted them I just must have missed it. Now as to where to get them you gotta do the work, can't make it easy on ya...

 Re: Sunguts
A lot of Sunguts stuff is from Akuma-kun (Devil boy) . . . another Shigeru Mizuki manga / anime I love it all but only have a few of them . . . I find they are usually quite expensive! Re: Sunguts
I know it's an old post but if people are interested, here are a few photos of his studio: http://blog.hintsandspices.com/2013/01/ ... day-2.html (side note, my blog is so out of date!) I was lucky enough to study under Sunguts earlier in the year, I developed two new sofubi works under his mentorship: Suity-chan and Kowaiila . His resource library is awesome; full of rare and hard to find Yokai books. Not sure about the character of the horse but the body is from his 'Dorotabo' character. Sunguts tends to use the same neck size for most of his works and either switches or sculpts a new head to 'create' a new character. My works were made with the same neck size too. Using the Kowaiila head and the Dorotabo body, Sunguts made an awesome custom for my exhibition in Japan. I love his Devilman anniversary release that he made with the Dorotabo body too

Looks like it was a great experience! I can imagine you didn't want to leave Japan!
