Depends. Mostly not so good, once you start really digging into the wealth of shows.
I know a lot of the Spiderman shows have been subbed, and of course the shows that have seen release here in the past couple years, like Kikaider and Red Baron. I'll do a little more study.

I'm actually in the process of trying to find someone to work on custom subs for Ultra Q.
It's insane that none exist, it being so very damn seminal and all! Almost every anime series ever made has had custom work done for it, so it can't be impossible to find an able party, but I may have to take up a collection to pay the person once I find them.

Subs would be great for a lot of these, but I'm not afraid to treat it like smutties and fast-forward to the good parts!

Thanks again for posting this.

I knew of a few other sites to check but not all had complete series.

Tokuzilla is helping me fill the gaps in Ultraman Ace and Leo and now I have more than 3 episodes of 80!

Found a spot where a nice group post custom subs they've done.
It's not too extensive but is most appreciated:

English fansubs are actually becoming a lot easier to find for these shows than they used to be.

Other than the site which was already posted (which is good), here is a good site that's been doing Kamen Rider series, which I'm thrilled to finally see in English after spending $1000 when the Japanese DVDs came out to watch them raw:

http://kitsubs.blogspot.com/

There are several other good sites, too. Most of them are all linked together, so just click around and you can find a lot these days.

I've done a more complete study of what Hi No Tori has available.

I'd highly recommend to you all their 8 completed episodes of Ultraseven. Just perfect.
Demon Hunter Mitsurugi, from 71, was totally unfamiliar to me.
Really enjoyable. They've finished 7 of them so far.
They did great work on Robot Detective ('73), too. 8 episodes up.
I haven't had a look, but I'm told they have the whole series of Kamen Rider Amazon ('74?) subbed as well.

I'd use this link to get there. It seems to the most complete listing of their output.

If you are interested in more modern tokusatsu, check out TV Nihon.

http://www.tvnihon.com

They have all the Heisei Rider stuff, some one offs and a few of the Sentai series. Nothing too old, but hey, it's still toku.

I probably spent a week and a half getting all of the Spectreman series from that Tokuzilla site, only to find out it is in Spanish. Grrrrr, wish they would post this information before. (I know, I know, it was my own stupidity). But all these series on DVD here in Japan are ridiculously overpriced. I still want to pick up that Ultra-Q box set, but c'mon, this hobby keeps me broke enough as it is :? .

Post Re: Toku Toku Toku
The boys at Hi No Tori fansubs have been busy since I last checked -

Ultraseven is now up to episode ten and they've thrown up a few episodes of UltraFight! Exciting news if you're me.
They've also finished up the complete series run of Demon Hunter Mitsurugi. Weird shit.

As excited as I am to have more Ultraseven to read, my highest praise for them has to go to the work they've put into subbing Toho's Daigoro Vs. Goliath from scratch.

Can't recommend this one enough. Never thought I'd have the chance to see this one properly.

Agreed, those guys do amazing work. Glad they keep releasing ultraseven episodes, looks like they have more episodes in the works. This is one of those shows thats really tough to watch un- subbed. I really hope they get around to doing Ultra Q one day.

Couldn't agree more! I've been in regular contact with one of the group, and he tells me that Ultra Q is his number one priority, but that the translator doesn't feel the same way at all! He's gotten the rest of the team to agree to work on the project when and if they can find someone to start them out with some scratch English transcriptions.
If anyone out there knows someone that might be able to be persuaded to take a swing at an episode or so, please PM me some contact information!

A long-shot, I know, but hopefully a little interest can be scared up, especially if it's only on an episode by episode basis.

Long time no post...

From the good people of Hikari Senshi -
Return of Ultraman MKV rips with English soft subs:

o episode 1
o episode 2
o episode 3

Reuploads of episodes 4-11 are hopefully soon to follow.

Anyone know a spot to grab any of the Ultrashows with the English dubs done in Malaysia? Pretty sure half of Ace, all of Taro and the first 10 or so eps of 80 are out there.

Thanks D!! Compiling all these links here is brilliant. I don't know about the Ultra series, but I have a Malaysian disc of the first six episodes of Jumborg Ace. I could see about ripping that if anyone wants it (but I think the originals eps are also available via torrent). No subs on either unfortunately.

Edit: Nevermind. I just got these today, and popped them in now - the quality is pretty terrible. :(

Ah, they've moved to a new address since being linked in the first post.

I don't suppose that there's been any Ultra Q developments?

Post Re: Toku Toku Toku
Amazing times for us mono-lingual devotees of Showa-era Ultra shows ---

Everybody knows about the scrappy but still appreciated box sets of Ultra Q, Ultraman and UltraSeven, but have you noticed that...

A Malaysian company called VGB Network has released fully subbed versions of the complete runs of Return of Ultraman, Ultraman Ace, Ultraman Taro and, as if that wasn't enough, Jumborg Ace? All leave a bit to be desired - each disc is jammed with up to 19 episodes, the translation on the subs can be a bit ESL at times, etc - but they're still plenty watchable, and perfectly understandable. Oh, and CHEAP! Low thirties if you go the eBay route, about half that plus ship if you go with a company like SkyDVDs.

What, you still want more? What if I told you that a company called Crunchyroll had licensed both Ultraman Leo and Ultraman 80? And that they were streaming both, with absolutely perfect subs, for free? You'd be happy, right? Here's links to, if you don't mind a few commercials, those streams, and if you do mind, links to torrents of quality MKV rips with removable subs:

Don't feel quite complete yet? Hi no Tori has teamed up with MegaBeast Empire to bring us a fully subbed release of Ultraman Story, Tsuburaya's revisionist history film from '87 that tells the tale of a teenage Taro trying to prove his salt to the Ultra Brothers and the 'rents:

Back to '66 for a minute, Midnight Crew Subs has an interesting revision for fans of the OG hero show - same scrappy Chaiyo transfers, but with vastly improved subtitles:

To recap - EVERY Ultrashow from '66-'80 is now out there with subs in English! Now if only someone would show a little love to Fireman...

Happy New Year, toku fans!
