Totims by Tim Clarke @ TAG
Diggin these Totims by Tim Clarke! Doesn't look like there is a thread dedicated to them yet but there has been some past discussion of his classic 80's releases like Boglins. I dig the exaggerated cartooned facial expressions on the totem. Also kinda reminds me of a "poor man's" take on that pink zenith that was recently released. It's probably too statuesque for some people here but to each his own. Tim's got a little info online here: http://www.totims.com/

Tim is a really nice guy and of a different era in toymaking (in a good way). I hung out with him at DCon. You can see the puppeteering influence in his sculpts.

I had no idea he was the guy behind The Sectaurs. I loved that line.

Gray vinyl with a darker gray, brown, black or dark green rub and I am sold on these. Maybe any color with a rub to really show off the sculpt.

The interchangeability of these screams mixed unpainted parts to me.

^ I love mixed parts toys, but for once I think a mixed part version would make it look too segmented. It would look like a kids stacking toy.

I'd be interested to speak with Tim, and get his thoughts on the state of designer toys, coming from his background.

Re: Totims by Tim Clarke @ TAG
Posted this in Feb. in the American Non-vinyl Toy section. It was this initial conversation that got him in touch with Gino and the rest, as they say, is history...
plastichunter wrote: "Tim Clarke, the guy who made Sectaurs and Boglins just walked into the store today. Needless to say I was like a giggly fanboy. Tried to convince him that a reissue (at least the blogins) might be in order." "He was a totally unassuming guy. I did most of the talking. He seemed a little surprised and taken aback at my interest in his toys but very gracious at the same time. We talked for about 30 minutes and I showed him images of lots of new vinyl figures. Nag Balls, the LASH Sam Henious, Paul and Blobpus's toys that are in the current show. Talked about vinyl micro mini's and Gacha machines, the emergence of Japanese vinyl toy makers from the USA. I had about 10 windows open on the computer going back and forth between his stuff and new toys trying to convince him that there was still a market for what he does, old are new. i either planted a seed or totally freaked him out. I think he was amused at my enthusiasm."
@art-whore Clear vinyl release coming soon. _________________

Re: Totims by Tim Clarke @ TAG
I recall reading that post back in Feb, Connell, and did not connect the dots at all when I saw Tim's name on this. Apparently you did plant quite a seed! Amazing to see another artist (thinking also of Groman, here) who has done such classic, beautiful monster toy work get involved with this scene. This sculpt looks great- it's fascinating to see Tim's distinct style in soft vinyl- but to echo David, I really look forward to seeing paint apps that pop all those details. In the meantime, I hope we can soon see some close-up shots of the individual faces.

Connell is always the catalyst for good things at TAG. Problem is no one realizes it.
I think there is a stone colorway in the works. I saw something Tim was working on.

Since the segments are all two-faced, I am thinking different color sprays on each side of the totem so you can twist mix-and-match colors would be really neat.

Yes! These are cool. I have a thing for totem poles. Not crazy about that particular shade of pink, though.

Not crazy about that particular shade of pink, though. if its the same as the rest of the fluorescent pink vinyl thats been around with other makers lately, then its more of a bright hot pink rather than a magenta as it appears in the photo.

Re: Totims by Tim Clarke @ TAG
These look really cool.
I didn't realize he did both Boglins and Sectaurs, but thinking back now it makes a lot of sense, I was a little kid back then and at one point in my crazy little head I was pretty sure that both Boglins and Sectaurs were some kind of alive, due to being puppets.
That guy is magic.

Re: Totims by Tim Clarke @ TAG
Got mine in the in the mail today! It's definately a "hot pink" vinyl lighter in color than magenta but darker than a bubble gum pink.
You can really see his personal style in the sculpt. The facial expressions have that outlandish Jim Henson style to them, very much like the boglins.

Totims Ankor Wat Edition: Quote: Each TOTIMS set consists of a total of 4 interchangeable parts which can be rearranged into multiple configurations: one top, two sectionals 1 bottom, plus an extra top cap. Combined together the TOTIM towers at 12 inches tall, and each individual part has a 3 inch diameter base (individual heights vary). Each part is also double-sided, giving you even more options for arrangement.
The Ankor Wat TOTIMS feature a detailed paint rub over cool grey vinyl, with highlights picked out in black, gold and silver.

Re: Totims by Tim Clarke @ TAG
I was out of the loop on this until I saw Tim on Toy Break. The sculpt is so bonkers great. I can't wait to see some of the customs that come out of the pink blanks. Just off the top of my head I think Skinner or Rich would manage to pull every bit of disgusting nuance out of that sculpt.
And yeah, Sectaurs is my jam...
