^How could they go from Akercocke to Voices as a name is a wonder !
I got a couple of non metal album I enjoyed a lot last week. Away - Cities ands Ulver - Messe I.X - VI.X I've been following Ulver since Kveldssanger but I have not been impressed by them since say, 2001. Messe is good.
Away's new project is not what you'd expect from him, It's field recordings, collage + his weird accordion playing (The album was mastered by a board member for bonus point )

Re: Metal.
It's so weird you posted the AWAY project because I just commissioned him for an original piece of art I had no idea about the project either....fascinating listen. Thanks for the link.
As for Ulver, I love Bergtatt so much, it was weird to hear the vast departure from their roots, but in a way it seems even more black metal to do what they are doing . I need to give their stuff a few more listens.

Into the new Skeletonwitch and Toxic Holocaust because thrash lives forever for me.
Thrash lives forever for me too. The new Toxic Holocaust is great. Looking forward to listening to it again at work tomorrow. I still have to check out the new Skeletonwitch....so much good metal !

Re: Metal.
^ That shit is funny
Old school legends Pestilence brought the heat on the new effort. Really like this record.
Also really pleased with the Grave Miasma record. First time in a long time I actually felt a sense of dread and fear listening to something. I remember the same feeling listening to Mercyful Fate and Celtic Frost for the first time back in the old days. Very impressive debut from this UK group. Apparently recorded on vintage analog gear too....always a smart move.
Celtic Frost totally blew me away on first listen. I was just a punker and unaccustomed to that stuff. Been listening to Absu lately, mostly Tara. It's not hitting me quit as hard as it did, but it's still pretty darn good.
CF was one of my all time favorite band, then with Cold Lake, they made me quit on metal up till De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. It was only recently that I uncovered Prototype

Re: Metal.
Just finished reading the newest Decibel, they had the obligatory 'Best Albums of 2013' list....got me to thinking what my favorite albums were as well. I'll stick to ten in no particular order.....with a few honorable mentions
Motorhead - Aftershock Voivod - Target Earth Falkenbach - Asa Toxic Holocaust - Chemistry Of Consciousness In Solitude - Sister Summoning - Old Morning's Dawn Grave Miasma - Odori Sepulcrorum Gorguts - Colored Sands Ghost - Infestissumam Darkthrone - The Underground Resistance

Re: Metal.
Pretty pedestrian for me. Deafheaven- Sunbather, Uncle Acid- Mind Control, Skeletonwitch- Serpents Unleashed, Toxic Holocaust- Chemistry..., Ghost- Infestissumam. There's more, I'm just too lazy to think about it right now. I liked Integrity's new release, Warbringer too. Those 5 stand out in my memory though, so if I have to think any harder, I clearly wasn't AS into some other stuff.

I listen to a lot more than just metal
Me too....hell, the majority of my vinyl collection consists of jazz, soul/funk/r&b, and old school hip hop But metal ( in all its forms ) gets priority in my house. Some cool choices from everyone, and I agree with Rockstrongo about the newest Integrity album....good stuff.
Jason, I totally agree with your three 'K' choices, all great albums. Orchid's 'Mouths Of Madness' is another awesome record that came out this year. The Uncle Acid record easily could have made it to my list of 2013 faves as well. I also like the fact that I haven't heard a bunch of releases you guys picked, gives me something new to check out.
I can't believe I left out 'Ultraviolet' from Kylesa, 'Summon The Faithless' from Lord Dying, and 'Meadows Of Nostalgia' from Imperium Dekadenz....one of my favorites from 2013 ( although I suppose this is more black metal....)

^ There's about a dozen on your list I need to check out Glad you like Gorguts, spectacular album indeed.
Just got the new Decibel in the mail, and I won't spoil it, but they have the most anticipated of 2014 list.....I am thrilled with what's coming up this year ( with one glaring omission that I was hoping for...)

Re: Metal.
The albums I gave a ton of time this past year were from revocation, anciients, deafheaven, skeletonwitch, kvelertak and lately all I've been living off is the new ihsahn.

Pap Smear's recorded material (about 4 minutes!) is include on the album !)

^ Thanks, S ! Michel's a kind man, and it's an honor to have an original piece of art from one of my favorite musicians/artists. He also sent a bunch of classic Voivod stickers

Re: Metal.
Fuck Record Store Day.Go get the new Triptykon album 'Melana Chasmata' and support a metal legend, who at 50 years old just dropped an album that will kick your ass.
^ I gave it a couple of listen and I'm not that into it yet. Maybe I'm over analytic of Warrior's output but I find this one too over complicated. Then again, I always thought Martin Ain songs were the best ones in CF and Hellhammer.
Did you buy the new Hirax ? (It's Warrior that drew their logo btw )
