Loving the Marusan 450 series. I will probably try to place an order for a King Joe. MechaniKong is my favorite so far out of the 450. Just missing a brown unpainted. If anyone has a brown unpainted MechaniKong from the lucky bag I am looking to buy. 8)

That is a lot of fun right there Chimply! Awesome dedication on these.
Closest I will probably get to one of these is a right click, save.

Thanks. lol right click, save is the closest I get to most of the stuff I want also.

Comparison with a original Bullmark. Out of curiosity Marusan seem to have first released some of the lucky bags in September. But most pre-order lucky bags were sent out late November. I notice that the September releases which I got 2 back then had green staples on the header cards and the late November released have blue staples. Does anyone else have the same color staples for those month released? Or different color staples? I know useless and pointless info. But I am curious. :D

Dark navy blue. Slightly better picture of the color on the dark navy blue.

It's a pre-order direct from Marusan. I think the deadline is soon, or maybe past, can't remember.

MechaniKong painted version 2 pre-order sales should be ending very soon like in a day or two. Orders can be placed with or without the Tokyo Tower. Navy blue and silver paint on grey vinyl as a homage to the Bullmark version. Also made available for pre-order sales are an unpainted pink and unpainted black. Sales made only directly from Marusan and only in Japan. So you will not be finding these offer from Japan international online shops like Hobby Search, Ami Ami, etc.

Thanks guys! Couldn't find info on it anywhere - anyone know the price? Guy named mike Johnson posted on FB about taking preorders but was being a huge douche about it (anyone know if he's in here BTW?)
Thanks again for the info!!

Yeah, that Mike Johnson guy's a HUGE douche! I can't believe all that bullshit he did to pioneer the online sofubi-collecting community 16+ years ago and how he and Richard selflessly created one of the most useful and accessible online vintage Bullmark, Marusan, etc., monster toy databases in existence. And christ...him bending over backwards to help out collectors score new releases or get hooked up with other folks in the community for vintage sales or trades...whotta jerk.

Real creep, that guy! LOL

[shit...what's the sarcasm font color again??? :P ]

In case you didn't know:

http://www.clubtokyo.org/

and yes Mike is a member here (clubtokyo). Long time collector.

So if these new Marusan Mecha Kongs are mostly Japan only, and unavailable via places like Hobby Search where is everyone scoring them? YJA/ ebay sellers want way too much for them. They don't really seem that limited.

Thanks for the info Lixx - I am familiar with clubtokyo, use it often and am very grateful for the resource! I wasn't making the connection though.

If you are interested, I would contact Mike because he posted on club tokyo's page about taking orders for people - although hopefully he is more helpful to you. I asked about price multiple times and he replied with "very expensive" which I feel is an unwarranted douchey response. Plus, unless this release is much more than other 450s, I would really label it as very expensive, but again I still don't even know the price.

I don't get the secrecy, and why post about it openly, only to respond in such a way
Anyway, I appreciate his contributions, but he was an ass to me. Oh, well. Sorry to derail but hopefully some of you can score before he orders! :D

If he LITERALLY replied with just the two words, "very expensive", then yeah...that's fucking weird. But did you bother to inquire further???

The funny thing about all this is that it sounds like this figure is more expensive than the original Bullmark. So, uh, why not just get an original Bullmark? Just saying...

EXACTLY! No way a reproduction piece should be anywhere close to the value/price of an original.

Yep, his exact response and I was obviously put off and figured further inquiries were pointless. I replied "Oh thanks, that's helpful" in which I figured my sarcasm was clear. Oh well not a big deal.

But you make a good point Sanjeev. I guess limited availability of the originals are driving that? And then there's the old myth hype that there was an actual Marusan release of the mechanikong which makes these actual releases all the better.

The first release unpainted flesh was limited to 30. Version 1.5 was limited to 20. And the newest version 2 with tower will be limited to 30. You have the choice of not getting the tower. Without tower is an open made to production order. All the other releases have been made to production.

Original price for the pink unpainted was 12,000 yen (12,600 tax) and the 2 brown painted version 1 and version 1.5 was 16,000 (16,800 tax). The lucky bags which were unpainted were 10,000 yen (10,500 tax) each.

Post Re: Marusan 450 Series (King Joe)
oh, found this.
it mean 450yen.

maybe Anthony can translate for us?

Yes, 450 series actually referred to the price of the series in the showa days.
The big 30cm figures retailed for 450yen back then so this series is known now as 450s.

i wonder, other than inflation, what's happened since then that 450 yen toys made with the same materials and probably the same factories/equipment/hands are now sold for $450? (slight exaggeration, obv)
