Post Trying to pick a background color for a toy closet.
Finally getting a couple of those all glass ikea display cases for some vinyl toys and I've decided to convert a closet into a display area. It's the perfect size and it is totally free of direct sunlight. First I want to paint the whole inside of the closet but I have no idea what color would look best with all these random toys. White was my first thought but it seems a bit bland then I thought maybe black would look better. Then I thought about it too much and now I have no clue.

So what would you people suggest? I don't care at all if it clashes with the rest of the room. I would like it one solid color though.

I'd go with white. I know it's boring but white's reflectivity helps scatter light around, and won't make translucent vinyl look like some color other than what it is. Depends on your collection and how the closet will be lit, but if not white, I'd still say go with some pastel for overall luminosity.

It's all personal preference and what suits your toys best. Personally, I shy away from either white or black. I really like the way some toys look against an all-colour background, something red, green, or blue maybe. You want something bright, but not overwhelming. Just a few shades louder than pastel. Check out vintagevinyl and Ultra999's photostreams, they frequently take shots of with this type of backdrop, some of the best photos of toys I have seen, and I think it really works.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I think I am leaning towards either a pastel blue or something close to black. Still haven't actually picked one though.

Do you think a matte color would be better then anything glossy? I am assuming matte would avoid extra reflection which would be a good thing I think.

I would stick with a matte finish. I've only used a gloss for trim.

Pastel blue's have turned out nice in a couple small rooms I've done.
