Ikea has the Deltof back, and I think they are only discontinuing the Expedit temporarily. I heard they are going to make "modifications" to it.

Mike is correct about the Detolf, at least the black/brown version. One shipment has since come to (and quickly sold out) my local Ikea after the initial scare in the "Whole Collection Shots" thread last month.

Not sure if the same can be said for the "beech effect" version though. I'm guessing that's what you're referring to and (understandably) are concerned about, Lixx.

Yeah I meant to post about that Kallax being the replacement for the Expedit. I posted it on a oldschool drum n bass forum but not here- doh. Well it is records.

Apparently the deal is Ikea uses 1% of all the wood on the planet and wanting to be a greener company they were looking to reduce that (and save money). So the trademark thick outer edging on the Expedit shelf is one of the things they want to reduce. The bad news is the Kallax is not being made in the 5 shelves by 5 shelves (25 total) like the Expedit (like the one I own). I think the most you can get is 4 shelves by 4 shelves. Yep my local Ikea- across the border in Burlington Canada has 17 detolfs in stock BUT NO Beech Effect. Wonder if they are phasing out Beech Effect because of the wood variety used?

I think detolfs are just partical board with colored wood grain laminate on it. so maybe that color just wasnt popular enough to keep making it..?
