There will be some planned downtime starting Wednesday, June 15th at 9am EDT. The board will be closed for approximately 12 to 24 hours while we work on migrating to a new forum software. For more information on the move, check out the Board Change Announcements thread.

Can we all be just a tiny bit more considerate?
Take the meanest, nastiest post on this board. How would you feel if it was directed at you?
Over the last several months, I have received PMs from people pointing out how this board behaves like a bunch of dickheads.
Sure, people are going to transgress and fuck up now and then, that is just human nature.
But rather than ripping them a new asshole, can we be just a bit more considerate?
Now, obviously, if the transgressor keeps it up, again and again people's considerateness will grow thin.
I realize it is very easy to hide behind a keyboard many miles away and act like a complete motherfucker but I don't really think that gets you very far.
haha, i think i just realized why Coop doesn't post here anymore

I concur, Skulldrain is a cruel mistress . . . . Even as a 'Snarker, shit talker, chubby cheetos stained digit, keyboard stabbing, two-bit hero of the internettz, shithead' I still cry myself to sleep every night!

I never thought of Andy as crying. Unless it was of laughter at his slain enemies.

I thought fist fights were a common thing at SDCC in the mid/late 2000s, especially during the Pogue period...

The fights are just glorified myths. Toy nerds are freaking pansies in person.
Re: Can we all be just a tiny bit more considerate?
Nah man, there are some real badasses out there - S&S88 totally threatened me on instagram and through PMs here that he would fight me if he saw me in person...and then proceeded to just stare from across the room when I did see him
Re: Can we all be just a tiny bit more considerate?
Not that I disagree with what you've said Chad, but the board is really what you make of it. I try to play an active role in discussions, provide feedback on stuff where I can, share what little I know, etc. It's all about adding to the general appreciation of toys, which is, after all, what the forum is for. Sure there are always going to be some folks coming in who bring a bad attitude, or people who don't really get the sense of 'community' around here, if one even exists - but it's also balanced with the other side too. Manners and general civility have taken a downturn overall I would say in the current society, and when you add in the anonymity the internet allows, well it definitely gets worse.
Some people get touchy, while others exercise their personal beefs on here. And that is really an individual (and discrete) issue. But I have not seen near the negativity lately as we have before. Hopefully the mods have a good control of things; and elsewise it is more a self-policing atmosphere, as has always been the general attitude of SB. I don't think it has been any worse lately than it has been in the past, but I could be wrong. I know a lot the old guard has walked away from the board, which is unfortunate, as it is a greater loss to everyone; but I don't feel giving up is the way to go either. Without being able to control what anyone with a membership can write, the best we can do is to try and add positive contributions to the board ourselves.
As for fighting at conventions, well, we have already had a few volunteers for that who seem all too willing to drop the gloves.

Haha Kevin, exactly one of those examples. I do not blame him one bit; you are a huge and intimidating guy. And didn't you kneecap James at the last nerdmeet? These things get around you know.

About two years ago, people got silly on the boards for a while, so we took it offline for a bit. I don't want to do that again. Really folks, this is a message board about toys, not the last sacred bastion of youthful innocence about to be deflowered by the salacious masses.
So, 25 new people showed up, who cares? It isn't like this place got over-run by a million people. There are still fewer people here than your average Denny's on a Saturday morning. Get over it. Soon some of these new kids, will be old kids just like you.
Additionally, let's try our best to get over the OG vs Fresh Meat thing. Go ahead, look at your joined on date under your info on the left, no one (and I mean no one) has been here that long. I expect those of you that have been here longer to help the new kids and share the knowledge, gently swatting them into the right direction rather than throwing acid on them. It's up to you to make it a nice (enough) place. I am not saying to sanitize it, we are adults here, but let's not be douchebags. If you aren't helping in some fashion, then just stay out of it.
New kids, read the rules, and try and stay on topic. The reason you are on this board is to talk about a very specific niche of collecting, so stay in the niche. Keep your platforms on other boards where you talk about that stuff. We all collect a wide variety of toys, but we aren't here for everything. Secondly, if a thread turns against you for some reason, don't try and fight or reason your way out of it. You are the new kid. You probably crossed a line you did not know was there. Just remove yourself and move on to another thread and let it die. Then everything will be fine. Otherwise, the wolves with nothing better to do will come out, and jesus, I don't have time for that tonight. Heck, they might even be right about you, and I don't want to deal with the PMs that come along with it.
In other words, act like you would in person, because come SDCC, you will see a bunch of each other in person. And us.

Re: Can we all be just a tiny bit more considerate?
When did Flynn write that? Oh... every couple of years apparently. I've only been here like two years and I don't know how many times I've seen this come up. It's too bad Brian has to pop in occasionally to act like our guidance counselor, or in this case deputize Chad.
I think that it's high time that we do go back to being more considerate of others. To that end, I propose that all future SDCC fist-fights be handled with utmost courtesy. Bring back beatings with civility!
Or continue pissing about like bitter fucks...

For all the smack talk that this post generated to me in PMs it seems everyone was all talk and no action.
