Anyone on here who hasn't seen "Monsters", should definitely check it out. I was surprised at how much I liked it, and liked it even more the 2nd & 3rd time. Kind of an opposite to "Pacific Rim" (sorry, no monster suits though).

For a quick look:

It's on Netflix, for those interested.

Just watched this last night at your guys' suggestion and I loved it. Can't believe it flew under my radar. What other monster movie goodness could I be missing out on, preferably on netflix? The only other recent ones I recall seeing is pacific rim and Cloverfield, so I am sure there's a lot im missing out on, I plan to watch The Host next.

I recall liking Monster - more so than any other "giant creature" movie I've seen in the last 15ish years.

^ Hey, she wasn't un-beastly in that picture with Patton Oswalt! :P

The Host wins it for me, if we're picking winners - I ended up checking it out three times in theaters! Hadn't done that in years.

Oh yeah, Joon-ho Bong's "The Host" is great. Ha, in fact, even though I can watch it at anytime online, I had to own it, and purchased it along with "Troll Hunter" together through 1 of Amazon's combo deals (Love the latter too; "Troll Hunter").

I've actually come across a good number of people who refer to "The Host" as a joke, and even know a group of people locally who viewed it as part of their "bad movie night".

There is the valid criticism that it doesn't seem to know what kind of movie it's supposed to be, genre jumping at odd times. An obvious example of this was the transition between the dramatic scene where the daughter is taken, to the silly scene of her family overacting on purpose while crying and fighting in a semi-slapstick fashion over her death.

But honestly I personally liked that quality about this film, although I can understand how it may have annoyed some. I liked that it didn't take itself too seriously, and in my opinion, I think that they achieved Exactly what they were trying to by not sticking to any one formula. In fact, due to the unconventional structuring, I found the story at many times to be unpredictable and even surprising at moments. That's hard to come by if you are like me and watch movies every day.

I haven't seen any of Joon-ho Bong's other films, but I definitely need to make a point to. I know "Mother" is supposed to be a really good one.

Those bizarre moments actually are a characteristic trait of Bong Joon-ho's films, a lot of people couldn't get into Memories of Murder (which is brilliant imo) because its tonal shifts are equally wild.

Post Re: Godzilla (2014)
i think its stupid to put the toys out BEFORE the film.

hollywood has totally shit on the element of surprise. its like knowing what you're getting for christmas before it happens. i was perfectly ok with the first trailer that didnt reveal too much.

still excited for this film and will prob go see it twice. going to try to stay away from any more trailers and pics.

Post Re: Godzilla (2014)
I actually saw an interview with Gareth Edwards where he's talks a bit about Godzilla's enemy in the film, pictured above, and even goes into a bit of detail about its aesthetics. He kinda spoiled it himself, too. I'm in agreement the release of the toys before the film was a dumb move, though I can see them trying to gain off of the initial hype the trailers have been producing. Personally, I think the creature looks like Predator meets Cloverfield.

Im sure when Im watching the movie I'll be into it, but the monster in that toy image is kinda disappointing. Not sure what I was hoping for, but that thing isn't it.

Post Re: Godzilla (2014)
It doesn't seem to fit the environment I was expecting either. Hopefully the character will be redeemed once seen in the story, but as far as visual aesthetics go, I'm not a fan.

Sorry about not going the "spoiler" route w' the pic initially. Part of my point in not doing so was because I thought the toyline had already spoiled it (even came to me in a TRU email ad), BUT in hindsight I see how I passed that forward. Making the adjustment now.

In relation to same spoiler as above...

So that Knight Rider Pterodactyl is the main baddie?! I'm assuming government / military vehicle, since the trailer seems to lead towards a man vs. Godzilla theme. No alien hints, so I doubt it's from space... Well I hope that G at least wins out.

I know Godzilla's arms have always been a bit disproportionate, but the new ones look way off for its body. Looks like an extremely buff guy that cant wipe correctly because of his muscles.

Wouldn't both qualify as being new? Pardon my lack of understanding. It's just a trailer I've yet to see and it was released today.

New to the Web at least. Approx 2.5 minute "extended" trailer. You learn a tiny bit more about the Heisenberg human interest angle.

It's here: http://blog.criterioncast.com/post/81901436290/godzilla

That MUTO toy is not appealing at all. Hope they look better in the movie :?
Not sure about Godzilla either. Body seems awkward somehow?

And my main complaint with Pacific Rim seems to occur here as well = too many scenes at night / dark / cloudy / rainy / etc. Why can't we get some great Godzilla action under a sunny blue sky? What's next , no breath weapon?

getting sort-of pessimistic over this now .... fingers-crossed it turns out great.
