Post Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
While I felt that the finale episode was better than some others, I think that it is only by contrast to some pretty terrible storytelling. All in all I thought the episode was a lot of letdown, with little actually happening in the course of an hour of television. Yes, sure, there were dramatic parts, but there was sure a lot of dragging, and all towards a conclusion we all knew was coming. Top it off with a 'soft' ending, without much of surprise or cliffhanger - kinda 'meh' all around I feel.

My biggest issue has been that, while suspension of disbelief is a necessary prerequisite for the show, it becomes more and more as the seasons (and time) progress. A zombie apocalypse sure, but I am getting tired of a lack of dedication to the realism of the show and writing. Far, far too many sudden appearances/plot devices brought up simply to advance the story of the week, and I feel they really have little plan of where this is going longterm.

Exactly Steve!^^^

AMC, Gimple, Kirkman, Nicotero, and everyone running the show love to talk a big talk about how dark and realistic WD is or what to expect in the future. That's just trying to bait people to come back and watch. The reality falls far short. Ridiculous plot devices move along a weak story riddled with poor writing. Sure they get edgy once in a blue moon (i.e Rick ripping out someone's throat with his teeth) but soon return to being tame (writers choosing "screwing with" over the more obvious choice of "fucking with"). I think AMC lost its will to kill charcters as well. That whole logic of deaths have to mean something and move the story is BS IMO. This is a harsh world, and much like war people are going to die- sometimes horribly and when you least expect it.

I guarantee season 5 will be chained to Terminus for at least half a season.

Sounds like a pretty safe bet.

The gang trapped in a traincar surrounded by a bunch of hipster cannibals wasn't a good cliffhanger? I'll take a less "dramatic" season ender like such over the crap AMC pulled on BB with the whole Jesse/Gale shooting... all a matter of preference though.

For what it's worth, Gimple threw the FCC under the bus for Rick's toned-down final line on his Talking Dead appearance. Still can't stand Chris Hardwick in the slightest, but the commentary from those involved with TWD has proven to be insightful. I will agree that the lack of core character deaths seems very calculated by AMC. God forbid they start killing off folks and have the possibility of losing whatever demographic that character is geared towards...

You know what I love about this show? The fact that if you go back to page one of this thread and read all the way thru you will see people constantly bitching about the shows quality and saying "fuck this show I am not coming back next season" and as the pages progress you will notice all those people hung on from season 1 to season 2 and from season 2 to season 3 and season 3 to season 4 and so on which I have no problem with but do you any of you realize how fucking pathetic that fact is?

Feel the same, even started to think this was the -complain about The Walking Dead show- thread. I don't understand why you would watch something you don't like then bother to complain about it.

If the internet is not for complaining (and pr0n) than I am clearly doing it wrong. :)

In all seriousness though, critiquing a show/movie, particularly if it is something 'genre' (e.g. sci-fi, horror, comics, cult, etc.) is a result of there being a fanbase for that particular thing who wants it to be good. The whole reason we have expectations is because we go into things like this hoping for something, because we recognise the potential a certain body can have. When the execution falls flat, why shouldn't you offer your opinions on it? If I hate on the Star Wars prequel trilogy - and believe me, I do - it is only because there was so much more they could have done, with any degree of thought put in. You could substitute that for a lot of things which have an established following. I don't want to go to the cinema or tune in a television show to be treated as the lowest common denominator. I don't think that way. And if producers' intent is really to lower the bar on anything to appeal to any average Joe without any thinking involved, than honestly, they should just churn out some other drek. There is plenty of crap already out there, I would rather they not increase it while at the same time tarnishing an existing brand. And it is a pretty boring life when you don't have an opinion on anything.

Also, I am a curmudgeonly misanthrope. Now please remove yourself from my lawn.

Post Re: The Walking Dead television series!!!!
Well if you must know Apple refunded me the money I spent on the final season of Breaking Bad. Apparently they were facing some kind of class action I'm sure for dividing that into two payments but calling one season.

So here I am with a refunded credit for iTunes which I can only use there and I never buy anything on iTunes. So what the hell, WD season 4 for free? Why not? So no I wasn't going to watch season 4 if not for getting it free.

Now as far as your inane little comments saying I'm pathetic for still watching? Yeah you can go fuck yourself Waiting. I can critique anything I fucking want, and this show has become pure comedy gold for me. So why you little fanboys fawn over yourself on Daryl's next move, I just chuckle and keep commenting. Fucking deal with it.

Am i the only one who thought Carl was gonna die?
I thought the season finale was pretty good for The Walking Dead . . . i always expect some bad writing and dodgy dialogue, but it was still entertaining enough.

When they were running around getting shot-at i couldn't help but laugh - it looked so 'A-Team' with all those ricochets hitting the concrete with the little puffs of dust.
The terminus crew must be the worst shots in the world . . .

I thought Carl was gonna die, too. Hoping for it, in fact. I can't stand his character, or the kid that plays him. Just terrible all around.

As far as the Terminus crew's terrible shooting, I felt like they were intentionally missing the shots to guide them through to the cart for captivity.

ah, i missed that.

Either way, i thought it was a bit cheesy. A bit like the guy in the clearing who gets eaten and Rick says 'we cant help him'. Reminded me of those 'scream queens' from numerous horror flicks who keep saying 'No, No, No' whilst a monster is moving slowly towards them . . . and the whole time there is an obvious escape route and all they have to do is run away!

Yeah he wasn't completely surrounded at all! That left me thinking how did this guy survive a year and half and clean shaven to boot?! Did he just come out of a bunker or something?

That scene was the best thing about this "finale"...

I also missed Rick catching that they were being guided towards the cart - although I wonder if they realized that they weren't actually being shot at, why did they let themselves be herded towards the cart anyway? Why all the fuss about sending them to the cart one by one in a specific order when eventually they all just went in together? I feel the writing this season finally crossed the threshold from plain lazy to flat-out absurd, sometimes feels like watching Herzog's Bad Lieutenant "remake"...

I took the "order" as part organized attempt to keep them from trying some shit and part laying down the law, showing who's boss, dehumanizing, etc.

I was amused that this far into the zombie world those hipsters have soooooooo many bullets to waste herding people around like that. Hell when Glen showed up there in the episode before the place was about as safe from zombies as a hot dog cart. You would think ammo would be like gold and at least a closed fence would be used against you know... zombies. I think the main problem with the finale was that it had an incredible moment early on. The rest of the episode was beyond bland in comparison.

That. First they set up the rules by establishing that bullets are scarce and noise might attract zombies, then they throw them out the window. Instead this season taught us that zombies are also drawn towards fire and floaty balloons.

Well the "organized attempt" part would have definitely made sense - if they hadn't herded all the frickin' prisoners together eventually, hence re-uniting the group and giving them the opportunity to crack weak one-liners, organize and try some shit.

with all that racket I'm thinking Carol and Ty had to have heard and maybe even seen the commotion. Ty sneaks in and frees them. They dig up the weapons and plan, but after seeing his daughter they leave. :?

Well the ammo they just steal it when people come there. They properly have a huge stockpile of weapons. Maybe.

I watched it. Surprisingly good, seems like every other year the premiere is worth the watch (1,3,5 yes- 2,4 not so much). My only gripe was some of the Terminus red shirt extras really need to go back to acting school when being attacked/killed by zombies. Other than than pretty gruesome and kept my attention. I could have swore I saw some regular cast members as easter egg zombies but maybe I'm over thinking it. Morgan returns! (great news)

That trough scene was awesome. Def one of the better episodes in a long time. Looks like season 5 is going to be a fun one. And I wonder what Morgan is up to? Can't believe he left his apartment!
